Hi all, Decided to join this forum as it seems very active and knowing my CT200 has the same engine/tranny/battery, I think I will get more education here than the CT200H forums which does not seem to get much action. So we bought the car with a lot of miles...I know, it seems crazy but honestly, it's not the first time I've done this...I've bought many cars before with high miles with success. I always do research so am well aware of car reputations before looking to purchase them. If I know they are bad in one way or another, I stay and don't bother looking. I did my research first on these engines/battery/tranny and they seem to last so the high mileage fear went away once I seen the reliability reputation/stories. We bought it cash ($4500) and the intentions are to keep it as long as we can with preventive maintenance (done by me). I would not have bought the car if I know the parts were difficult to come by but after finding out the engine/battery/tranny are the same on the Prius, it made fears go away mainly because parts seem easy to come by when I sourced them locally online before buying the car. I was thinking worst case scenarios... We love the car (it's my wife's commuter)! First time hybrid owner. Our other car is an 03 BMW 525i Wagon which needs constant maintenance (strong engine/tranny though). I figure this high mileage Toyota won't be as bad as the wagon when it comes to maintenance. The wagon constantly needs something... Anyway, I have read a lot on here and have learned quite a bit. I have seen information out there of these cars going many miles so excited to see how long I can get this one to last. If something goes bad, I will just replace it. No biggie for me as I have a garage, tools, etc... So far I have bought some basic maintenance items from rockauto including suspension parts and tune up, etc. At 212k, it's about due for a suspension refresh. So, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
that is a really good buy... BUT go get the cars' repair history from your local Lexus dealer. Just show them the VIN probably use your proof of insurance and all USA Lexus preventative maintenance should be there. Look for water pump and inverter pump health . YOU should check the ERG system as soon as possible, I waited for 200K and found system to be totally plugged up

Congrats, man! I would also recommend full fluid changes if you don't know when they were last done. Transmission, engine coolant, inverter coolant. These are all 3 best done at the same time. At the least, I would DEFINITELY recommend the trans fluid. If you do it yourself, I just did it and it cost me $97 in OEM Toyota fluids from my local dealer. $50 cheaper than Amazon and i could find online.
Doing the engine coolant in conjunction with EGR cleaning,plus spark plug and PCV valve replacement, is a good ploy. For the EGR cleaning there are tactics to avoid spilling coolant but if you're going to do the coolant anyway... And the intake manifold comes off for EGR cleaning (it's part of the EGR circuit), and then the PCV valve is easily accessible, for replace or clean. Again, more info in my sig. Do bear in mind, with those miles, there's a good chance the head gasket has let go, if the EGR's been neglected.
