My 2007 Prius roof has a lot of pealing paint from sitting in the driveway in the sun. It’s beater car and I’m fine with that. I’m not interested in putting a ton of money or time into it for a full paint job. That would probably cost more money than the vehicle it’s worth. But if there are any easy or cheap options to make the appearance a little better, I’d give it a try. Any ideas?

Yeah real common well you The videos hoovies garage and all that nonsense. You see as well as I do paint gets touched up and played with all the time but look at the cost at what these guys are charging to freshen up paint practically what a paint job cost so there you go anytime you have an artisan playing around on your car things get costly very quickly apparently car painting is an art Go figure but I guess refrigerator painting is not too funny isn't it so there's lots of money in car painting car paint is expensive as a liquid etc so you're barking up a tree that you know gets pretty costly. If you're willing to buy yourself a buffer and the right pads buffing compound etc it's not anything to learn to do buffing that clear coat damage off and getting it cleaned up then you can possibly get a friend that knows what they're doing or even just a job shop to run over the clear coat on the areas you cleaned up when you're paying for somebody to DA sand and stuff like that you're basically paying cheap labor high rates to run a sander over metal or buffing compound rubbing compound whatever they're using You could do the same at your house The prep work is what costs all the money the sanding the buffing etc shooting the clear coat not a huge deal that's the reality whether he's an artisan or not

Vinyl wrap. Plasti-dip is another option.

You won't get a matching finish, so don't try. Better to aim for a complementing two-tone or even a graphic design.

Vinyl Wrap piece for the roof. $86.00 5' x 4' from 3M try and find a color that is close...buy a few samples for $1.50 and compare before you commit to a new piece. But you will need to sand and clay bar the roof first to make it super clean before peeling and sticking the new vinyl on. Clean with a clay bar and then rub down with a lint free cloth and rubbing alcohol. Most Vinyl install kits for like $9 on Amazon are fine. I would pop down the headliner and remove the antenna....then install the vinyl and cut a hole to reinstall. It is labor intensive but pretty cheap...and not messy like paint. So like $110 in materials and about 6 hours of work.. Have a friend help you install the piece on the roof. Knifeless tape is wonderful stuff to help in getting the cuts really nice.

The clear coat is shot and peeling.. The color might be salvageable.

You could selectively sand the "good" areas of the roof and clean the "bad" areas- then rattle can a decent clearcoat on it. Can't end up much worse than it is now.
