Hi y'all. First time posting. Recently had 3 tires replaced and upon completion told I had leaky struts that needed replaced. 2019 Prius, 50k miles. Will attach 2 pics. Any insight, from the attached pics, the level of urgency I might need to replace these struts. Thanks in advance
I can’t remember the name of the video but The Car Care Nut addressed this in one of his YouTube videos shortly after opening his new shop. Maybe someone here recalls more. Having said that, I don’t see any leakage. In fact they look pretty good.
The urgency is with finding a different tire shop that will not try to SCAM you into replacing high-dollar items that are perfectly fine. Get a second opinion.
Not urgent at all, especially if it took this long to hit 50k on a 2019. Might be more urgent to find a better repair shop.
I'd suggest within a year and a half maximum. Worn struts/shocks lead to increased tire wear as well as higher speed handling issues on bumpy roads. This isn't a scam. This is real physics. Once these units go really bad, you'll likely see tire cupping, and depending on how new your tires are, I wouldn't push too far on that line. Question is, how long before that threshhold is hit. Based on the photos it seems to be a weep, but once that seal starts to go, as I said, how long before unit failure. Time to save up if you haven't already. Good luck.
