I need new tires..should I change the rims?

    I’ve always loved the way they look but this car rides super bumpy. I don’t know how to figure this whole thing out. Roger at Hybrid Pit (my heros…thank you!) suggested thicker tires but the tire guy said he couldn’t guarantee them since he t would make it one inch higher than what it’s supposed to have. Please just steer me to how to figure this out. Many thanks.

    13 year old car.
    Suspension likely is getting worn out......but it is a small car and they usually ride "bumpy" when new.
    Especially if you have more than the recommended pressure in the tires.

    Changing wheels to get different size tires almost certainly will NOT solve
    your complaint.

    if you have the touring 17" wheels, yeah your only choice is thicker tires. what's wrong with running an inch higher?
    do you keep them at stock pressures?

    Switch to 15" rims with 195/65R15, the stock 15" size?

    Pictured rims are not stock, maybe not that expensive either?

    Took a closer look at your pic, those are 18" rims; stock touring were 17", with 215/45R17. What's the tires, can't quite read, 225/40R18?

    I need to replace the suspension next, I know. But as I'm in fix up mode I figured I ought to replace the rims if that will help. Are the 19" rims adding to the problem at all? It always has felt rough. Thanks for your reply.

    yes! 15" are stock, get the best mpg's and are smoothest with the correct tires. they don't look as good though

    If appearance is important, see if you can snag some 2012~2015 Prius Plug-In (15") rims; they look nice. More of a cleaning/polishing chore though.

    I love the wheels on the new Prius prime. I'd like to get slightly bigger ones because the 15" to look a bit more modern. Honestly, I love my car and am not ready to buy a new one thats for sure. Thanks for your help.

    actually, my tire person said you don't measure the rim diameter on the outside..he says they are 18" even though the outside diameter is 19. Really? Life was easier when I had a husband (may he rest in peace) who was a car guy and knew all of this. Even measuring a wheel appears to be outsid eof my skill set...

    Actually......I think that someone is trying to make a buck off of you by selling you something
    you don't really NEED.

    Yes, it always has ridden rough.......and probably always WILL no matter what you do to it.

    At this time in your vehicles life, you should NOT be spending money on it for things
    that you don't NEED because it is likely to be nearing some major repairs that will cost big bucks.
    If you then trade it in, all of that money spend on other things will be LOST.

    One more time of possibly confusing people with facts. Is it possible that the rims on there were part of an original package? Standard tire size on a ‘22 is 15” unless you have a package that has 17”.

    On the 2010? No. I still have my 2010 brochure, it shows the II, III, and IV had 15" wheels, the V had 17" wheels.

    Get a 15” wheel and tire set from America’s Tire for example. Your husband fit some pricey Michelin tires on it and you could probably be happy with much less costly ones….
