Mine was just installed a little closer to the headliner iirc. It's been a minute, so I don't remember the exact installation position. The best bet might be to get some pics of them already installed to see how long the cover is and its positioning. My guess would be though that you're just not installed high enough on the glass.

Yeah, that's what I think, too. Very frustrating because I think I followed the official instructions exactly. To place it, you cut out a paper template that comes with the instructions and tape it to the windshield using the TSS cover and the windshield dots as guides. As long as everything is lined up, it should be foolproof. But I guess something is wrong with template or I'm a higher class of fool.

Did you do the removal yourself, and how hard was it to get the mounting plate off the windshield?

Huh, and now that I study the high-res, full-color version of the installation guide on TIS(instead of the lower-res, B&W printed copy they sent me), I can see that the placement in the example photos doesn't match up with the template in the same document. Yay. Now I get to pull this thing off the windshield somehow and find some replacement double-sided adhesive that's just as good(or just order a replacement mounting plate with adhesive preinstalled).

I'll attach the official instructions just in case anyone else wants to try and do it themselves.

To add to a new thread as it starts up.... our constitution is n to built around safety in exchange for privacy. There are good and valid arguments for law enforcement, insurance agencies and it remains of critical important to have these balanced to support the upmost privacy for individuals.... not open to subjective opinion on the individual or the use case.

Thanks for sharing. This is awful. :( I thought the integrated dash cam included installation. Why did you do it yourself?

Saving money and the fun of it. I enjoy doing my own work. It would have cost $500 or more if done by a dealer*, $375 if done at the port, and it cost me about $285. I could have gotten that down to about $245 with careful shopping if I had chosen the Toyota version instead of the Lexus(I wanted the black ACTION button instead of the red one, and Lexus parts dealers seem to be limited to 20% off while Toyota dealers can go up to 33%).

*a guy who did a review of the Lexus version said it cost him $800 installed at the dealer(the Toyota and Lexus versions have the same MSRP)

Yes. Just triple check the placement before you adhere the mounting plate and don't rely completely on the included stencil. Learn from my mistakes. lol

As far as the 2023 Prius integrated dashbcam goes - it seems to be completely integrated in Japan? Is that the same cam? In the following video, they can open videos via Infotaiment:

I got mine installed by the dealer today in my 2023 Prius Prime. Total cost for parts, labor and tax was $525.

It installs on the passenger side on the 2023's because there is already a module on the driver side. I think that module is the rain sensing equipment.

I put a 128GB SD Card in it as the 16GB card it comes with is awful tiny.

My install is a little to far to the right (even though I asked for it to go up against the mirror shroud) and I can see a little of the shroud in the camera. I might go back and have them redo it. I assume if it were mounted further left (and almost against the shroud) that I would not be able to see it in the camera view.

Short video. The color changes in the video as I am driving are a bit concerning and not sure why it is doing it. I'll test it out some more before deciding on what to do.

I have the Toyota version in my car. Have had it for about a month. For me it has been great and well worth it.

I'm going back to the dealer today to have it moved as the mirror shroud blocks the left side view of the camera. You can see it in the video I posted.

I spoke to the service department and this time they are going to call me back to the service area before it's mounted so we can check placement via live view in the app.

Have you swapped the 128GB card in yet, and did you have to format it or anything first? I picked up a 128GB myself a week or so ago but haven't tried installing it yet since I don't have a CF reader to hook up to my laptop to do the formatting if it needs it. (and I've been stalling to buy a reader and also reposition my own dashcam)

I put the 128 card in, connected to the camera via the Wi-Fi button then formatted the card while it was in the Cam. Works well, no issues.

Update. Went back to the dealer to adjust the camera and no matter where we tried positioning it, it would catch the shroud. After a while the tech said he did not think the camera was intended for the 2023 Prius Prime even though it states that it is.

It was uninstalled and I was given a refund.

I think the correct camera in the correct location won't catch the shroud. I've discovered the hard way that not all Toyota/Lexus camera are the same. Actually, the cameras themselves are the same, but the cord covers are of different lengths. The Lexus version I bought because I wanted the black ACTION button has a 1" adjustable section and a 2" fixed section. From the installation instructions for the 2023 Prius version, I can see the camera for the Prius is supposed to have at least a 2-3" adjustable section and a 3-4" fixed section. That's why I had a 1.75" gap from the top of my camera to the headliner.

While I was reinstalling it a few minutes ago, I used the technique raqball and his dealer described by using the live feed from the camera to help with placement. When I put the camera where the instructions said to place it, there was no shroud in view. I was also hoping to move the camera closer to the shroud, but that immediately moved the shroud into the view of the camera. In my situation, I ended up moving the camera a couple inches higher than the instructions said and slightly moved it away from the shroud. I chose to have just a little bit of shroud in view so I didn't have to go any further to the right.

To raqball, I would have double-checked that the camera was actually PT949-08231 or PT949-08210-AA and not just one that looked very similar to it. The first part number is for the kit(not including the wire harness), while the second number is for the camera unit itself. I noticed today that the part number is listed on the back of the camera, but I didn't pay close enough attention to see which version was printed there.

It might still be possible to use a Lexus camera in a Prius, but you'd have to be far more careful than me in picking the correct one. I might end up figuring it out someday when I'm bored by going through the dashcam installation manuals for each Lexus model until I find one with the correct proportions, but I'm not going to bother to change out mine. It's good enough since I almost never have anyone in the passenger seat anyway.

According to my receipt they installed the camera with part # PT949-08210 on the passenger side. It can't go on the driver side as there is already a module there. I believe that is the rain sensor.

He used the template for the original install and it showed a pretty large portion of the shroud. When I went back we tired using live view to move it around. The only way to mount it to where it would not show the shroud was to move it pretty far over to the passenger side. That looked pretty goofy and not integrated at all so we scrapped it.

I wonder if it would have been correct and not show the shroud if it could have been installed on the Driver side? On the Prime, it's not possible to place it there.

Maybe I was just being picky and a Karen but I wanted an integrated and professional look and the camera, for the price, should be that and not show part of the shroud.

    Edit to add:

Oddly enough, I had originally called a different Toyota dealer when originally searching for the camera. They told me the correct part number for the car was PTN57-00230. A search for that shows no images and it's called a Carmate Dcam.

    Edit again. (LOL)

Searching today for part # PTN57-00230 I now found an image and description. It's a 360 degree camera that looks the same. Say's it's for the 2023 Prius and Prius Prime.

    https://www.sparksparts.com/oem-parts/toyota-carmate-dc4000ra-dashcam-360-ptn5700230

    I'm confused as heck...

Nope, it's supposed to go on the passenger side. I have to wonder if he printed out and/or placed the template correctly. I'll attach the instructions to this post(.pdf file). There's a good image of where the mounting plate is supposed to be affixed in fig 8-1 on page 8. Be a little careful on which images you pay attention to in the instructions; some are repurposed from other models(like fig 8-3 which is from some other model entirely).

When I first got the dashcam wiring harness, it came with a B&W poorly photocopied installation guide for the 2023 Prius(the one I've attached). One thing I noticed was that the template wasn't printed to scale correctly. Whenever the dealer/parts supplier printed it out, they included the headers and footers, which compressed the image slightly. If I had used that template, the camera would have been slightly too low and too close to the shroud.

None of this helps you, sadly, but it might help someone else trying to figure this stuff out.

See my edits. I added the other camera that a different Toyota dealer mentioned.

Even if he did not place it correctly the 1st time with the template, we spent a good 15 minutes in the car moving it around while checking the Live View to just about every location imaginable and it still showed the shroud.

After finding the other camera, I have to wonder if it's not the actual correct one. Only 2023's are listed as it being compatible with..
