Thanks! The GBB warranty mgr thinks it's the fuel pump. The frustrating part has been that the mechanic I have it with now won't call him so I need to have it towed again to another mechanic that is willing to speak with the Green Bean Battery Warranty mgr (who is great btw). I tried calling another Toyota Service Center but the service mgr was so rude and confrontational that I just can't be bothered. I am working with Toyota Brand Engagement on getting reimbursed for the first bad diagnosis and some of the towing.

Through 15 years of ownership on a bought new 07 with a very high quality oci that started to use a little oil around 110,000 miles I found in addition to moving up to very high quality 40 weight oil over filling the engine oil about an 1/8 of an inch or a tiny bit more stopped its oil eating at around 145,000 miles.

Yes...I think over filling the oil a little helps the engine.

After many many micro oil top offs I found the sweet spot.

When I sold my 2007 Prius I could say without a doubt it did not eat any oil. I sold it around 175,000 miles. And it had a new Prius battery and ran perfectly....16 years later. That's right 16 years later and a new hybrid battery and all original mechanics and it ran perfectly and did not eat oil.

The 2007 Prius is a fantastic piece of engineering and a great test bed.

Ok, I'm confused. Does the car run now or not? If the car was out of gas then the ICE can't run.

That can reduce the pump's lifespan, but it doesn't directly have anything to do with the fuel level gauge reading. (it doesn't really matter, in that the pump and level sensor are part of the whole sealed fuel tank assembly).

If the pump doesn't work, then "any" (decently competent) mechanic should be able confirm that there is fuel in the tank, and that there is power and ground present at the tank electrical connector when the ECM commands it. (which would confirm that it needs a tank assembly)

So I found a mechanic shop that specializes in Toyotas and it was from the oil being over filled. I also did need sparkplugs but I've never changed those in 175,000 miles. I have had this car now towed 5 times because of this and replaced my hybrid battery all because of this. Can I go back and ask the original mechanic shop that did the oil change for some reimbursement? I am certainly going back to the Toyota Service Center for reimbursement for improperly diagnosing my vehicle. They said they didn't see oil anywhere and that it was the hybrid battery when the car showed no signs of the hybrid battery dying prior to the oil change. Even when I took it back to the mechanic who did the oil change I asked them to remove some of the oil and they didn't.

This new shop removed some of the oil and did some cleaning and said they have driven the car several times after adjusting the oil level and the car runs totally fine.

you can do anything you want.

how much oil did they remove?

where was the dipstick level after the first oil change?

edit: going back to post #3, 'a little over the full dot' cannot prevent the car from starting or running properly.

nonetheless, i hope it is fixed and wish you all the best!
