Hi Experienced Prius Owners, I am going to buy an used Prius 2007 car which was not driven for around last five years and it was garaged under cover during this period. Can you please let me how the hybrid battery is affected with the non-usage of car for long time? What can I expect of the future performance of this car's hybrid battery? Thank you for your replies.
If it absolutely hasn't been charged or touched in 5 years, my guess would be the HV Battery, as well as the 12 volt battery are both probably toast. Proceed with any purchase decision with this outlook.
A car that hasn't been driven in 5 years is going to have a lot of problems, hybrid or not. I would look at one that is daily driven.
It all gets down to condition and price and your willingness to shell out money and spend time on repairs. My thoughts are that it had better be really, really cheap.
One thing that wouldn't hurt, if it's possible: take it for a test drive, see how it performs, what the state-of-charge display shows. I'm not that knowledgable, about hybrid batteries going bad, and second gen displays, second gen'rs would be more help. It's driveable, the 12 volt has looked at?
I wouldn't purchase a Prius that sat for six months, let alone five years. Nothing to see here, move on...
If the battery is charged for at least 24 hours using our battery chargers BEFORE the vehicle is driven the first time, the battery will be in the same condition as it was the day it was parked. We had a customer who purchased a Honda Insight that had sat in a barn (literally) for 14 years. After one charge the hybrid battery was ready to go. The other fluids, tires, and 12V battery obviously needed attention, but the Hybrid battery has been excellent for him for close to two years now.
I guess after waiting for eight years, I bet the OP is ready to pul the pin. Another question, why do people keep responding to these old threads.
