Ok so my 05 has a bad hybrid battery and rather than replace it I bought a 2010 gen 3, well a little less than a year goes by and I have signs of a bad head gasket and now my brake light is on and no cruise control but my hybrid battery is good so I swapped it into the 05 that had no other problems and now the red triangle is on and it won't start but it's showing the hybrid battery is 3/4 full? Any suggestions where I should start?
Welcome to PriusChat!! Use the appropriate scanner to retrieve those obd2 codes (DTCs), then post them in this thread for additional guidance. Did you try power cycling it twice? FYI : you're moderated until you've posted 5 times.
When a hybrid battery sits for a while... It can lead to these symptoms... We need the error codes first with one of these devices: Hybrid battery diagnostic and repair tool for Toyota and Lexus But in general, I'm glad you made it back to Gen2, they almost never have headgasket issues.
If I understand the OP correctly, he took the "known good" pack out of his Gen3 (that has been in use) and put it into his Gen2 (that had been sitting). Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Step one. Make sure the orange HV fuse holder interlock is fully seated. It's 3 steps. 1) insert the holder, 2) swing the lever in, 3) slide the lever straight down until it clicks. If that's ok, then you need a capable scantool to check different systems (such as hybrid control and HV battery) for codes. Here's a thread that reviews several scantool apps and devices. https://priuschat.com/index.php?posts/3290690 Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
My question is.. Did you swap the battery packs or the complete traction battery itself? My understanding is that Gen2, and Gen3 use the same battery packs but not the same control module.. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Yep... It's highly unlikely that anyone would use anything but the actual modules from Gen3 when using them to get a Gen2 Prius going again. But if someone didn't understand this level of obvious I sure hope we get to see pictures...
I don't think you can swap the whole case from the Gen 3 into the Gen 2 The battery fan ductwork and all that won't even line up and I don't even think you could plug your plug into the traction batteries computer and all that I think the relay layout is a little different and that sort of thing.
This is physically impossible. The cases are completely different. You have to transplant the modules.
