I got good news from the dealer I put down a $500.00 deposit. He said if everything goes well, I should be taking delivery of my 2024 Prius on 5/24/2024. He is hoping the finance rate will be under 10 percent.

Did you request a specific trim/color combo? Which?

I went Prius/Hybrid shopping the day. I saw one on the road quickly and one at a dealer. None to sit in to see if I fit. Dropped by the Honda dealer and they had !5! accord hybrids. About $32-$38.000o-ish price. NO DEALER ADDED MARKUP. Refreshing Also looked at a 2020 Lexus 300h. Nice car, plenty of room and has a spare tire! Looked it up and claims 42-45 mpg.. Hummm
I'm not planing on buying till the market comes down or availability comes up so we will see what is going on.
    YMMV

Honda wrecked their reputation with the IMA system. No negative news on the full hybrid system that replaced it, but the public is probably still shying away from them.
But how many CR-V hybrids were there? You probably have a better chance of finding a Corolla or Camry hybrid than a Rav4 at a Toyota dealer.

I'd never take a CR-V hybrid over a RAV4 hybrid. Honda just hasn't caught up after they basically paused hybrid development for a generation. I mean the hybrid CR-V actually has a transfer case, drive shaft, and rear differential to make it AWD. Not only is that a bunch of added weight and moving parts that could fail, but it also means there's no rear motor to generate power while braking like the Toyota AWD hybrids can do.

Not saying Honda hybrids are bad by any means, just that they're about one or two generations behind Toyota when it comes to refinement.

I wouldn't judge a hybrid system by the choice of electric or mechanical AWD. They have trade offs. Electric is fine for most uses with less efficiency loss. On a hybrid without a big battery, its extended period output can be limited though. With a mechanical system, as long as the engine can run, it can provide full performance.

A rear motor for regen braking is nice, but it hasn't been a negative for all the FWD models out there. Rear only motor doesn't seem to hinder Tesla one pedal driving either.

Besides, a hybrid SUV without AWD can be had. Don't know about the CR-V, but its optional on the Escape, and the Rav4 in other markets.

Heffner is saying 2+ years so to get on the wait list sooner rather than later. No deposit though.

Toyota Tracker may not be up to date for all regions. It still shows my VIN# under Allocation. My dealer status shows that it was shipped 5/22 and vessel arrival on 6/19. I assume it arrives in one of the NY region ports. My salesperson says to expect delivery in the first week of July. I put a deposit on a XSE in the beginning of this month.

My local dealer Closest to me where I secured build on ‘23 Prius limited is only getting one or two allocations per month or so! my understanding is the Prius comes out of one factory in Japan that probably produces 100 to 120 cars per day, I don’t know if that’s just for the US and Canada or globally? Good news is I got on a dealer list early before sales were even announced of the ‘23 so it looks to be a 7 to 8 month wait for me! some dealers are adding an addendum to the window sticker $5k plus for things like Shine all, diamond coat windshield glaze, key loss protection, pulse brake light!,,Things that cost the dealer next to nothing!

I'm pretty sure Toyota-Tracker just pulls information from Toyota.com. The confusion comes from the terms used for each.

Toyota term/Toyota-Tracker term - definition of the term

Build Phase/Allocation - Start of vehicle construction up until ship arrives at the delivery port.
Transit/Freight with no date range attached - Car has arrived at the delivery port and is being processed
Transit/Freight with date range attached - Car has finished processing and has been loaded onto a train/truck

So sometime around June 19-21, your car should switch from Build Phase on Toyota.com and Allocation on Toyota-Tracker to Transit and Freight, respectively.

I looked at the Hybrid Honda Accord before going for the Prius. The dealer told me the car was built in US, maybe thats why there was plenty?

This! Toyota-Tracker can’t get the internal details the dealer gets on the vessels. You can try and find the vessel based on the days the dealer gives you, I was able to find the vessel on my case.

Toyota tracker is not accurate. I picked up my Ltd last Monday, but the tracker says it is still in Allocation stage. Only dealers have more accurate data. Also, don’t just accept the standard 7-10 days on the truck. Have a manager look specifically, if you are planning on travel for pickup. Mine came in 3 days from port to lot.

The dealer told me that the vessel departed on 5/22 and vessel arrival date is
6/19. He did not provide vessel or port names. Assuming that the port of departure is Nagoya, how can I find the vessel(s) that departed on 5/22?

I kind of hope mine doesn't come that quick as I might be caught with my pants down since the loan check is still in process to be mailed out. My sales guy just told me the ship will be at the local port in just 2 days, and to expect it to arrive at the dealership 10 days later.... Which seems excessive since the dealer is only about 2 hours away from port and after your experience.
