2005 close to 400k miles: -ABS/Cruise control problems make the car almost undrivable above 60mph. -I cleaned the battery terminals and replaced the 12v battery with no improvement. Codes: -P0500-352 Vehicle Speed Sensor A -C0200 detail 254 Front Speed Sensor RH Circuit -C1235 detail 302 Foreign object on Front Speed Sensor RH -C1236 no detail Foreign Object on Front Speed Sensor LH -I have replaced the sensors I have pulled them both out and cleaned with no results. -at low speeds the car can drive almost normal -at highway speeds if you use the cruise control the car will pulse as if it's fighting itself to determine what speed it should be going. Shortly after that it's as if the car gets overwhelmed and gives up then the ABS, (!), Brake lights come on and the speedometer reads 0 miles per hour even though you are going 60 +. I'm at a loss on where to start with this but the car is worth fixing doesn't burn oil and I would like to fix it. I appreciate you taking the time to read this long post.
Don’t use cruise control Get a bootleg copy of Techstream and chase down each issue and replace parts with new.
I appreciate your comment but would like to get the cruise control working. I have techstream that's why I know the codes and detail codes and posted them and I am asking for help based off of what I pulled from tech stream. Please advise.
Just off the top of my head and having not looked up DTC guides, the sensor views a tone ring through an opening in the dust shield. Perhaps the tone rings are damaged? -or- has any maintenance recently been performed on the axles or hubs? perhaps the dust shields were not installed correctly and the viewing windows are misaligned? The dust cover is installed on the rear of the hub to keep dust/dirt out of the bearing. It has an opening in the side (you can just barely see it in the link below. Opening is on the left side of the photo). This 'window' must be aligned with the sensor so the sensor can see through the dust shield to sense the tone ring. 4324647010 Genuine Toyota DEFLECTOR, FRONT WHEEL BEARING DUST, NO.1, RH/LH | eBay
Check the tone rings as suggested. See if any teeth are bent or the ring is cracked. Also check if there's any corrosion under the sensor mounting. That can "lift" the sensor further away from the tone ring- which weakens the signal. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
