Some shops might use those 'universal' programmable sensors, and program them with the same ID numbers the old ones had; then the car's TPMS ECU doesn't need to be told anything, because those are the same IDs it already knows.

But one way or another, the sensor IDs and the IDs the ECU is expecting have to be the same. ;)

I took the car to a shop an the mechanic checked the 4 sensors with a scanner; two were good, two were bad. Contacted the vendor, explained what happened and they sent two more sensors. I will replace the bad ones and see what happens.

Here’s a new problem, AC on a very hot day in heavy traffic did not work. I saw elsewhere that it could be due to a switch, dirty filters, lack of refrigerant, or the compressor. To my mechanic to see what we need to do to get the AC back.

How much did it cost you to replace all 4 sensors?

Toyota dealer was quoting me almost $400 for the job years ago. I never replaced them on the 2007 Prius.

I bought a cheap 4 pack from Amazon. Chinese cheap. 1 didn’t work out of the box. boight one from Orielus. Had them replaced and never looked back. The price of not having the TMPS light on…. Worth it.
