That second fob was issued by the dealer not Toyota.

Your 2021 did come with 2 when new. It's been pretty standard new cars come with 2 keys for as long as I can remember. It's not uncommon that 1 is MIA by the time folks trade in years later. My first Prius was used and they only had 1 key. It turned it bad for me when I drove an hour to work in the pickup with it in my bag only for the wife to call my furious that she couldn't leave for work. I had to drive home again defeating the whole purpose of switching cars that day because she had a longer drive. We got another fob soon after and made sure the next used car we got had both keys before buying it

Since last year many new Toyotas and Lexuses are being delivered with only 1 fob from the factory and a promise to eventually get you the 2nd one.

Driving a modern car with only one FOB is a bad idea. If you lose that FOB, it is very expensive to get your car running again as the dealer will have to replace both the FOB and the relevant ECU. This became obvious to me when I was at the Subaru dealer for regular maintenance when they misplaced our FOB. After they tried unsuccessfully to program a new FOB several times, my wife had to drive down with our second FOB so that they could complete the programming of the new FOB. The good news is that we later found where the dealer had misfiled the original FOB and now we have 3 FOBs for our Subaru (and the new FOB was free).

    It’s done!
    FINALLY!
    Got the 2nd KeyFOB today.
Purchased a ‘22 Prius Hybrid on 1/15/2023 and received just the one FOB.
After receiving service bulletin notice via Toyota app 11 days ago…made appnt with dealer.
So that part went smoothly after waiting for 5.5 months.

I also asked for an oil change with only 4,000 miles on the odometer. But policy is “it’s 10k miles or 12mo” for the free service. No exceptions!
So I’ll get 2 oil changes in 24mo of ownership.

Instead of an oil change they rotated tires and checked fluids.

Purchased my Prius Prime in early July, still have not received any notice that my second fob is available. Gotta say, this was a BAD idea. I understand why they were opting to do this because of the chip shortage, but perhaps a better solution could have been found (for example, one of these companies that make aftermarket fobs!).

To fob or not to fob. Anyway, I use my smart phone as a key and remote start etc. Bought my 2024 a month ago and good to hear we'll eventually get a 2nd fob..

Just don't lose the single fob. In the past, you needed an old fob to program a new fob. Your only other option was to buy a ne ECU $$$$.

My car is a 2024 Prius Prime, purchased mid January 2024. It came with one key fob and I was told that a replacement was available. The VIN was not registered on the Second Key Delivery Plan database until April/May.

I received the new second fob 2 weeks ago. Works as advertised.

NOTE: I was told that I could use my cell phone as the second key fob using the digital key feature. That worked reliably IF I turned off my WiFi as I approached the car so that it would use the Blue tooth signal.
