Hello i am looking at R@R ing the transmission on my 2012 prius V. A local shop mentioned that they would have to program the new transmission has anyone else heard of this? Thanks in advance!!
No. The transaxle is controlled and powered by the inverter and other ecus, none of which are in the transaxle. What seems to be wrong with it? Many misdiagnose a transaxle when it really is an intermittent misfire which causes a lack of sync at the transaxle's damper.
Thank you for the reply, the issue is a high pitched whine and the passenger side cv axle can be moved up and down by hand while fully inserted into trans axle. When i popped it out there is metal fused to the axle from somewhere inside. Personaly i think the shop did not want to work on a hybrid so they used the " gotta be programed" excuse to not work on it. And no the whine is not comming from either wheel bearing already had it checked.
As soon as they said it needs to be programed he followed up with " and that's something we do not want to do" I knew they were not interested. So the price was never discussed.
Get used... they are low cost... shop around. Make sure it comes from a v !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can tell cause the v trani is water cooled. I know cause mine went bad.......
The liftback and v transmissions are both water cooled, in the green area shown. The v transmission also circulates water in the purple area. (The liftback transmission is the same case, just missing the plate and hose connections over that area.)
If it's the same as the 2011 gen 3 Prius transmission. Nope no programming needed. Do not use a junkyard transmission as most junkyards don't know how to store a hybrid transmission. I just put one in my 2011 Prius gen3 Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I went to 4 different salvage yards replacing my transmission. All of them left the driveshaft holes open or broke the vent letting in atmosphere. I strongly suggest NOT putting in a salvaged transmission. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
