My 2013 prius has 120k miles, I currently get 32-33 mpg. I got the car at 70k and it did 39mpg at that point. Any idea how much more life the battery has left? California has a 10 year hybrid battery warranty, this is the last year. Does this mean they will cover it till December this year, or do they count the month the car was made too?
Did it steadily go from 39 to now 32? Or is the 32 sudden? I ask because my car did exactly that after changing the 12v battery. I performed an ECU reset and it went to 36. Got the rear brakes/rotors replaced and it's now a steady 39. I have a 2011 with 20k or so more miles than you. To get a better gauge of the battery, buy a OBE scanner download the Dr Prius app and run the battery check tool. The app is well worth paying for alone to get rid of the reverse beep noise.
It probably covers only "total" failure and the clock likely starts the day the first owner bought it. Without taking it out/apart, nobody knows how much life is left. And even with doing that, it still would be a guess.
10 years from registration date, but you need a trouble light/code to get warranty. it is very possible that the battery isn't causing the mileage decrease. have you cleaned the egr circuit?
Its been a steady decrease very steady. I checked with the dr prius app about 6 months ago it said 60%. I'll check again today. I can tell the engine turns on more often when in the parking lot with ac on
maybe 2mpg? It would stay at 2 bars a long time, then just to 3 than 4 in 10 second or so. It would drop just as fast. I did the initial cycle at the end of July 2021. After doing the complete cycles, it was like a new battery. Smooth and even charge/discharge cycles. It lasted about 10 months. I noticed it would stay at the 2nd bar just a little longer. And from 3 to 4 a little quicker. Same on discharge. Not all the time, just once in a while. It might of just been me. But the 12v battery finally died so maybe that was part of it. I ran the complete cycle in October 2022. I did it the 3rd time in March of this year. It seemed okay, but I had 4 days where I wasn't going anywhere and was going to be busy for a while and decided to do it while I had the down time. I just replaced my head gasket, and should have done it again. But had a brain fart! But it seems to be charging and discharging normally so I'm not going to worry about it. I'm hoping it will hold on for another year when the prices go down and the availability goes up.
I think "dreaming" would be more accurate. And few people are able or willing to go to all of the trouble that you did.
Can you list me all the egr parts I should clean? Should I start with the circuit first, or clean all of them in one go? I noticed actually that the engine seems to be running rough and louder than usual. And the car feels more sluggish and slow. Can a really clogged up egr system drastically decrease mpg?
Start with basic maintenance first. Spark plugs, coolant change, fuel injector cleaner in the tank. Check ECT, O2 sensor, brake drag; electric water pump, clean out & check battery cooling system. I've seen intermittent ignition coils causing intermittent misses that the computer doesn't pick-up on. My GMC went 18 months, with a bad ignition coil. I can feel it on hills, but the CPU never picked it up - mileage went into the dumpster. I couldn't find it, because it would fix itself - every-time I opened the hood. Finaly got fed-up and ordered a new set of coils. Before they arrived, the bad coil finally completely died and I was able to find it.
