Hi all! My 2011 Prius blew a head gasket and I'm really on the fence on whether to put a new engine in from LKQ or to sell it as is. I have a local shop that can put in a new engine in, parts and labor, for around $4000. The current mileage is 257000 miles, it has been burning oil for 100,000 miles I have never replaced the hybrid battery. I just put brand new tires on a few months ago. I think I have a buyer for $3000 if I choose to just sell it as is It has been in two accidents, a side swipe and a ding. I have a truck I can drive I have spent hours going through this forum and trying to make a decision What do yall recommend?
Sell it before the battery dies from sitting. You have to think if you keep this, you’ll have $4000 plus another $4000 to throw it at later for new battery and brake booster.
At 257,000 miles, I think the ship has sailed. But, the real question depends on where you are sitting financially. You have a truck you can drive. $4,000 is a lot to invest, but, it depends on what you want to do with your money.
Dump stop leak into the crankcase and sell to dealership like carmax. People here do it all the time.
