I faced a problem yesterday whilst driving, the fuel indicator suddenly gave empty and the engine shut down, I managed to put over and did a hard rest to the hybrid battery as well pulling the white fuse out, then the car went back to normal, now I'm afraid it will happen again and I don't know what to look for, can any one help, most appropriated
I don't know why if the car is out of gas, you would reset the hybrid battery (didn't know that was even possible). Should you just put gas in the car?
Could be related to the float sensor in the hat. They wear out over time on lots of vehicles. Does toyota have a safety feature with this? I'm fairly certain ive got 20 miles below 0 multiple times, but also when i read fuel level on my scan gauge from the x-code for Toyota it gives me the actual reading of like 1.X gallons left.
I go 435 mi then I'm looking for gas If I'm going to hit 4:35 and going to be knowingly out in the country I'll gas up before then other than that there's nothing to think about My phone can tell me my mileage as can other devices
Just to mention, the car had more than half tank fuel, and after the power was restored, the indicator gave me the correct amount, and also I filled it up next day and what I put in confirms that it indicated the correct amount
Could you (or someone) explain what you did? Since it saved your bacon, sounds like it would be good to know.
Odd it should shut down, I recently had a rock bounce under the car which hit the fuel tank hard enough to dislodge the float arm off the sender unit in the tank, car ran perfect for 3 months with zero fuel showing on the gauge and light flashing. Pulled out sender unit and fished around in the tank for the missing float... Resembled and all good again. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I did the reset out of panic, the car had fuel in it and the indicator was OK after the reset and the car drove Norma It showed half full, but filled the car any way The problem has not repeated since then but I'm nervous driving that it might happen again
