Ok, so I have never installed an HID kit before, but I have just ordered the Morimoto Elite HID System kit form The Retrofit Source.

I have 2 questions for those that might know.
    1) I included the "optional" Anti-Flicker Capacitor Link, but I'm not sure if I will actually need it? It was $15 so if I end up not needing it there is no great loss.

    2) The instructions for the kit include a few step that makes me pretty nervous. Mostly because of all the HID install videos I've watched on Youtube, none have included these steps as far as I can tell.

Where's the 12V+ power lead under the hood?

Any help in this dept would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a picture of my engine fuse box. There is a bolt exposed under the cover (with the screwdriver near it) by the heavy gauge white wire in the top center of the picture. You can treat that bolt like the positive terminal of your 12v auxillary battery (always hot).

Or, you can use one of the two open 1/4" push on terminals at the back of the fuse box, Which are much easier to access than the bolt mentioned above. In this pic they are the ones with the heavy gauge red wires connected to them. I have my highbeam DRLs and Foglights running off these terminals.

To use those push on terminals I would have to cut the washer like connectors off and replace with the push ons? I assume I could get the push on things at, say, AutoZone/Advanced/O'Reilly's?

I can't see your pic on my smartphone. But yes, any autoparts store, or even Walmart automotive section. Just get 1/4 inch push on type crimp on connector for the appropriate wire gauge size. Maybe some heat shrink tubing to put over the connector as well.

    Cool, I can do that.

Anybody know if I actually need that bit? I guess it couldn't hurt to install it either way.

Yeah, you can put ring terminals under that bolt. Disconnect the 12v auxiliary battery before touching that bolt though.

If you use those push-on connections in the fuse box for an accessory, should you include an in-line fuse (since I gather you are connecting directly into a main)?

Yes, if you use the included HD Relay harness there is an inline fuse.

hey any update on where you got the 12v positive lead connected to? photos would be excellent. I came across this post and i am also installing a HID kit in my 2002 prius. I have the capacitors and also the wiring harness that is asking for 12v positive lead. I dont think you have to use the wiring harness but its recommended so if i can find a 12v power source under the hood i would like to use it. Let me know how your turned out. thanks

This shows the main 12 volt lead at the fuse box:

I ended up using one of these add-a-circuit fuse tap to get power from a fuse under the hood for the HID harness. Works great, thought i would share.
