Hi all, Just left safelite I brought my car because of a nice big crack in the windshield. I drop it off because who is going to wait. So anyway I’m gone not even ten minutes and they call me saying they have the wrong windshield. The lady said I need the windshield with the rain sensor and I’m like what? So I go get my car and she explained my wipers are automatic and I’m like I’ve had this car almost 4 years I’ve never had that happen. They are saying there is a button by the mirror but I’m not seeing anything and I’ve been trying to look it up and it’s on the wiper settings. I don’t have an auto setting. The point is I was supposed to get this done last Saturday and had to reschedule because my insurance company was closed and couldn’t verify and it happened again but they were gonna take care of it Monday. My deductible is 850 dollars for the windshield which isn’t cheap. I’m just so frustrated because once again I have to wait for this to get taken care of and I’m root on vacation so I have to wait until two Tuesday’s from now for a windshield I don’t think I need with the rain sensor. So if anyone has any insight to this please show me what I’m looking for. Thank you!!
The windshield does not have a rain sensor. The Auto wipers use the camera to see raindrops on the windshield. Your stalk does not have the Auto setting for the wipers. Try another shop.
That’s what I thought I was telling them it’s never done it before and I see no buttons for it. iPhone ?
Yes/no, basically you are incorrect in saying that a "special windshield is not required". A special windshield is required. There may be some cr*p low-cost POS rain sensing system that just uses cameras. However, I don't know of any. My guess is that if it's possible to scam the public with that garbage, then it's in a Tesla. For Toyota (similar to most other systems), see Code: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZWIyUandqA How Rain Sensing Wipers and Wiper De-Icers Work ToyotaJeff Reviews https://www.torquenews.com/6626/how-rain-sensing-wipers-work-2020-toyota-rav4-and-how-get-them By Jeff Teague Jan 2 2020 How Rain-sensing Wipers Work on 2020 Toyota RAV4 and How to Get Them How Rain Sensing Wipers and Wiper De-Icers Work ToyotaJeff Reviews How Rain-sensing Wipers Work on 2020 Toyota RAV4 and How to Get Them | Torque News By Jeff Teague Jan 2 2020 - 9:12am How Rain-sensing Wipers Work on 2020 Toyota RAV4 and How to Get Them Excerpt: ====== How rain-sensing wipers work on 2020 RAV4 The idea of how rain-sensing windshield wipers work is an easy one. It starts to rain. The vehicle senses this. The wipers wipe. How it works, though, is a little more complex and quite brilliant. The 2020 RAV4, when equipped with this automatic wiper mechanism, has a circuit board located just inside the windshield. When standing outside at the front of the car, you can spot this equipment by looking at the top of the glass just to the left of the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 camera. It looks like a black rectangle. An infrared light within the circuit board points from inside the 2020 RAV4 outward. On a clear day, this light bounces intact off the windshield and back to a circuit board sensor. No need for rain-sensing wipers in this scenario. However, when it starts to mist or rain, this infrared light breaks apart and scatters. This triggers the wipers to turn on automatically. ======
I have had many windshield replacements performed by Safelite with generally great results. If you can get hold of your insurance carrier I'll bet they would like to hear about what is starting to sound a little fraudulent.
I sent the guy from my insurance claim a long email about what’s happening. I hope I hear from him tomorrow. How much did you have to pay for your windshield? iPhone ?
I have always had full glass coverage so I pay nothing right away. But then there are those "incremental" rises in semi-annual insurance rates that attempt to recover expenses and the whole reassessment of risk whenever you make a claim. My 2021 is on its 3rd windshield and I looked back in the records to the first replacement in September 2021 which lists an estimate for $597.74.
