2023 Prius Prime - official prices paid thread

    Yup...Classic bait and switch. I've learned to get the deal in writing first and the name of the salesperson over the phone. I start conversations off with," My time is valuable as is yours. Don't waste my time and I won't waste yours. If you want this sale be honest and upfront. I will do the same. If this is something you can't do please connect me with another salesperson you feel can."
    That sets the tone for my negotiation mood right up front. And why I flew 600 miles and bought a car and then drove back for Both my Prii. Local dealers were not willing to work under my terms.:unsure:

    Indeed.

    The only straight forward, no BS, MSRP only Toyota dealer in the KC area is Molle. They claim to be the largest volume in KC and I initially bought a C-HR there and it was the one and ONLY time when the fiance guy asked me just one question, "Do you want any extras?" I very clearly said, "no" and he got the paperwork and done and I was on my way.

    Their Prius Prime waitlist was quite long and I eventually found a Prius LE AWD-e at Jay Wolfe Toyota who also sold that Prius at MSRP but they did try to get me to buy extended warranty plan in the finance office, still not too bad but Jay Wolfe had the Missouri legal max doc fee. THey did mark up Primes at 5k and salesman was at least honest when he said the dealer owner basically didn't want the avg Joe buying Primes at MSRP and then flipping it for profit so they're doing the markup thing themselves. They currently have a used Sienna advertised at $64k...go figure.

    Legends Toyota claims to be MSRP only but they do very shady stuff...in the past year I've seen "used" Rav4 Prime, BZ4X, and now "used" Siennas with VERY little miles on them that are 5-10k above new car MSRP and being sold as used cars since they've been legally titled by an owner once before. Not sure how they are doing it but essentially the owner of that dealer is finding or outright buying new, high in demand Toyota models, driving it a few miles and then selling it as a used car for high price.

    Hendricks Toyota seems to be the worst - they have a "required" $3500 dealer package add-on and they were trying to sell a few 2020-2022 Primes for like 45k....it was hilarious watching that price go down and down and down until it was no longer listed on their used inventory. Wonder if they finally cut bait and took them to auction.

    I'm not even going to try getting a 2023 Prime right now - namely we like our Prius LE and the first new gen model will have some growing pains...AND the value of the Prius Prime is completely shot right now. The govt has stopped the tax credits for the Prime and the MSRP + current market means the MPG/EV miles value is pretty much done with the insane pricing...you'll spend much LESS buying a lesser MPG car at far far less OTD cost. So those who bought 2020 Prime in March of 2020 when everyone was quarantined at home (THE best time to buy a new car that will never happen again) with all the incentives AND haggling down AND with the tax credits made it out like bandits.

    Definitely get their OTD offer in writing (in email), before heading to the dealership unless you intend to haggle further. Car salesman/finance managers will use every technique in the book to add $$$'s to your purchase. It is their job.

    Always remain patient and take your time to read and understand everything they hand you to sign when you arrive. They will attempt to speed you up, and obfuscate the numbers so you lose track of where you started. Be patient and slow through the entire process. There are no stupid questions, even though you may feel at the time like there are. Use a phone as well as a car payment calculator. The "car payment" is a prime place to inflate the original sales price. A $30k loan over 5 years at 5% interest w/ no down payment, taxes, or other fees included is $566.14/mo. Make sure their calculator works exactly like yours... ;)

    Also, if this ever happens to you again, immediately ask for the general manager and explain your concern as politely as possible.

    lol I still am waiting on the LE in wcp with lt. grey interior for 37k, for which I put a deposit down and agreed to a markup months ago…and I will consider a Model 3 if this wait continues and if there’s another price drop bc this is getting ridiculous!

    jesus. Paid sticker + $175 dealer fee for a prius limited awd premium package. Lia Toyota. Those guys were fantastic, absolutely no up charge. The key is to be patient and expect your search to take a month or two and jump when the car first gets listed.

    Actually, you don't need to take the key from your pocket to open or close the hatch. The strip that you push to release the hatch on previous generations is now a switch that initiates the lift. For closing the hatch, there are two options:
    1) Push a button on the inside edge to close the hatch immediately without locking it. You can then press the dimple next to the open bar to lock it (like previous generations);
    2) Push the other button on the inside edge to initiate a close and lock sequence. You need to step a few feet away from the car before the hatch starts closing.

    And people STILL are argeeing to pay markup on these things.

    Same with Sienna as well...on reddit forums people are routinely saying they are paying markups.

    And that's why dealers still are charging markups because people pay them. Stop. Doing. That.

    This dealership looks to have quite a few hybrids. Prius,RAV4,Carolla,Venza and Highlander. With no BS fees, If the price is right a fly and drive would be in order

    How would you quantify "near future"---six months? A year? Year and a half?

    We've decided to hold off for at least a year, as it appears that a recession may be on the horizon, esp. with the ongoing debt-ceiling shenanigans in DC ...

    idk if it is possible to quantify it. there really isn't any good info regarding manufacturing problems in asia, shipping and receiving problems, and labor shortages.
    we're seeing low inventory across a host of industries, but i haven't read of any solutions or how long they will take.

    I agree, you can get a good deal with no up charge if you're willing to wait. I thought $3000 was insane, but $6000 is ridiculous. If consumers were more judicious, this wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately, there are those who with more money than common sense.

    You can't fault buyers for paying these markups on new Primes without faulting buyers of used Primes for what they are paying.

    If I paid $x for a Prime 3 years ago and can still sell it today for $x, why should a dealer sell a new car for $x (let's set aside the generational price increase for the moment, as it's a wash to the argument) when someone can buy it and flip it for $x + $5000?

    My personal advice to anyone in the market for a used gen 4 Prime right now is to buy a beater for 9 months or whatever and watch the market. But maybe I shouldn't put that out there until I've unloaded mine (hopefully within the next 8 weeks)

    I paid $56,700 Canadian after taxes for the Prius Prime XSE Premium with rust protection and 3 year comprehensive warranty.

    The $5k cheque goes to them, so it's applied to price I paid.

    I'm loving it, have had it less than a week and only have 700 or so KM on it so far, been nice for short trips into town as it doesn't cost me any gas. The car is costing 7.4c a kWh to charge so about a dollar. Even in hybrid mode I'm using less than 1/2 of what my old Acura EL used.
    The dealer said I shouldn't use cruise control for the first bit so I haven't had a chance to try out all the features yet, though a couple of the safety features are distracting and long grass triggered the collision warning and slammed on the brakes.

    Just curious, owner's manual seems to indicate that wheel nut wrench, jack, and jack handle are not provided. Can you confirm/deny? Screenshot 2023-05-23 150336.png
