Just picked up my XLE on Friday. Now I want to hardwire my dashcam and run the cables behind the airbag. I’m assuming it’s the similar to most Toyota vehicles? Stick your fingers in the crack and pull outwards? Like in this video.
Probably worth checking the repair manual if you really want to get it right the first time. Toyota Service Information and Where To Find It | PriusChat The little clips that keep it from being shot at you when the curtain airbag inflates are shown in that video as having some kind of squeeze release. From what I know of the Gen 3 Prius, there they have a rotate 90° release. I don't know if that's changed for Gen 5 or not. If you just assume it might be either, you can probably recognize which kind it is by the time you get that far.
Hi! You don't need to pop the A pillar trim - it's risky putting wires were airbags are located. Instead, pop the mirror surround trim, and tap into the plugs there. When I bought the Toyota integrated dash cam, you need to buy a "tap" harness that plugs into the black connector (there are three in that area, in addition white and a grey connectors). I believe it provides 5V because that harness includes two voltage regulators, but if your dashcam is 12V, can cut them out and you'll at least the tap that is needed for a clean install.
Had it popped off for dashcam hardwire kit to fusebox via fuse tap for power. Simple, had the wire routed through/headliner and came out underneath the rearview mirror area plastic and it's unseen otherwise, plugs into dashcam. Tucked in along edge of that area
Are you able to demonstrate on how you popped off the A Pillar trim? Are you able to make a video? Please this would really help. Thanks I would really appreciate it.
Oh, I should have been clearer sorry. I had a tech do it. And it's done already. But I did see him by hand put it back in place. Not sure that's helpful
Just checking, by memory was it in the plastic piece which is there around the rear view mirror? is that the spot where tech connected the cable?
