Aftermarket Prius C Fog Light install

Hello all, I recently purchased aftermarket OEM fit fog lights from amazon for $40, and wanted to post how I installed them for everyone who wants to know. I don't have any pictures of the actual install as my camera on my phone is broken, but added some pics of the aftermath. Anyways it took me 6 and a half hours of fiddling around to figure out how to do this, but if you know what you are doing I bet it can be done in under 3, and here is how I did it:

First I started by jacking up the car and removing the front wheel wells, to install the fog lights and I realized that the fog lights I purchased had 4 tabs to be screwed in, but the car only has posts for 2 and one of the extra tabs on the lights interfered with the install. This was no big deal, I just cut the tab off of both the lights and zip tied it to the car for extra security. (The tab to cut is lowest to the ground furthest away from the wheel).

After getting the lights installed, which really was plug and play, two screws and a zip tie for each light and the clip in housing, I ran the cables. The first cable section was long enough that I ran the cable up and tied it under the support bracket where the lip of the hood/hood release lever are and back down to the other light. After that I ran the power wire following the hood release cable, through the firewall with the release cable and zip tied the cables together at points. At this point I realized that they give you way to much cable, so I cut about 3 feet off of the cable.

The second cable section for inside the car was a bit more challenging. I put the fog light button behind the E-Brake, in an empty switch slot next to the EV button. Then ran the cables under the shifter assembly and carpet to the fuse box located to the left of the drivers footwell. There I found a spot for the second grounding wire, and connected the two power wires together to the fuse box.

After that it was just put the car back together, which was just the plastic skid plate under the car and the plastic wheel wells.

About the cables: The cable in this kit confused me as I have little electrical knowledge, but I figured it out. There are two sections that connect together through a clip, the front which connects to the lights themselves and has a grounding point. And the second cable section which goes inside the car and contains the relay, the button, another grounding wire, and two other wires, one yellow and one white. The yellow and white wires are the power wires, one for the button, and one for the lights, I am unsure which is which as the way I installed them didn't matter. I connected both wires to the same piggy back 5Amp fuse, as I wanted the fog lights completely separate from my headlights, so I can turn them on and off as I please with a push of a button. The black cable that is zip tied is the power cable between the two lights



In this picture that black wire to the left is the first ground wire, and that lone zip-tie in the center is the power cable zip tied to the hood release cable. That goes down and through the driver side footwell.


These are both power wires, i stripped them and tied them together, then crimped them into the piggy back fuse and wrapped it in electrical wire, (rather poorly I may add).


The button to turn on and off the lights, it glows unlike the other 3, but I prefer that because it'll remind me if it is on or not. I also originally was gonna mount it next to the steering wheel, but decided that it would look better here.

 

Once you take the shrouding around the wheel off there is 4 clips on the dummy housings that you unclip from behind. Or when i got 3 off I was able to wiggle the fourth one loose pushing it out. I recommend taking the wheels off for the installation, otherwise your gonna have a tight space.
