Its a 2014 Prius. Its has the intmt brake booster/ accum failure. Its failed now. The head gasket is blown to where its only running on 2 cylinders. Its way too complicated for a sunday mechanic like me. And Im not spending the thousands to get it repaired by someone else. So I must put up for sale as is on fb marketplace. I dont know what I should ask for it. $500.00?

If you don’t mind, for stats: what’s the miles, was EGR and intake manifold cleaned, and if so, at what miles?

I would put yourself in the buyer's seat and google around to check out the price of your competition. See what other major problem Priuses are selling for. I would guess your competition may include junk yards though.

In fact, junk yards would also be willing to buy your non-running cars. At least, I know junk yards buy them here in Canada. In fact, they would come tow your car too as they do this as part of their business.

Alternatively, you can estimate how much it would cost to bring your car to a running condition and then compare it with the value of the running car then price it something accordingly.

You can also just post and get offers. You can always start high and adjust the price of your ad, but it really depends how long you want to wait for a sale. The last car I sold, the auto insurance premiums were higher than the value of car, so I had incentive to try sell it quickly.

In Canada, I remember seeing one or two ads of dead engine Priuses listed for around $2k-$4k CAD. Whether or not they sold for that price is another story. A running Gen3 Prius costs around $6k to 14k in Canada and I guess an engine swap is around $3k-5k here. Sorry, most PriusChat users are in the United States so I can only talk about the Canadian car market.

I'd have to see some pictures first I seen some pretty damaged gen 3's that I wouldn't waste time picking up All of this is very subjective I'm a person that's been in the business for a long time and there's things that I won't accept that aren't worth fooling with so a lot of younger folks just getting their feet wet and whatnot they're willing to do a lot more for almost nothing in return they're the ones you see with parts on eBay for top dollar and higher You wonder how they ever make a buck they're certainly not helping themselves But all this is starting to level off as people are starting to wise up and realize the used car market is not all that we're going to get back to $700 used cars here and pretty short order because people are just realizing it's not needed to pay this kind of money It's actually stupid pay all that money and then deal with all the problems and what have you No there are cars out there too that are inexpensive people just don't want to deal with the stigma or whatever they conjure up in their mind I don't have these problems
