Vinyl Wrap for Gen 3 White Blizzard Pearl Paint peeling issue

All wraps require near same preparation as paint... If you put a wrap on top of peeled paint every detail of the peeled paint underneath the paint will be almost as obvious as a coat of clear coat. If I were you I'd use a Plasti-dip spray on / peel-able rubberized paint option as a 4" inch wide white racing stripe down both sides of the car, because it can be sprayed on thick enough to hide the edges of the peeled paint if you're skilled enough to prep it down to super smooth and spray it super thick.

 

I have a friend that does this for a living I wouldn't tackle this for a minute this would be like watching the grass grow or tinting windows or even painting No sir Not for me nor is furniture building and just do time-consuming lengthy yeah but good on you I would have left the paint feeling on the 2010 yeah I don't generally do painting and a lot of that cosmetic stuff unless the car is really some kind of worth it. I keep a vehicle three sheets in the wind paint should be peeling off unless it was painted by an airplane company.

 

Or you can get it repainted for free with the Toyota ZKG customer support program for blizzard pearl or super white paint.

 

My vin is printed on the perforation tear off to provide Toyota dealerships proof of eligibility. But ignore this info, I want to see a vinyl wrapped Prius!

 

Please don't take this the wrong way but given the condition and age of the door, I'd just sand that area down and hit it with a rattle-can paint job

I still wonder, just how much can/will they do. It'd take a complete assesment of current and potential flaking zones, and is that even possible. I'd suspect they'd deal with what's currently flaking, do a partial paint job, and the flaking may continue, down the road. In short, it's a mess. And you had to pay extra for Blizzard Pearl.

Mine was purchased second hand and still get the letters nagging to get recalls to git r done. How the wrap project coming along?

12 months later, Amazon is still out of stock on the Avery gloss white, but I was able to find it at a random online retailer using Google Shopping. For anyone in a similar boat to me and looking this up, here's where I found it:

You can always look for parts at junk yards. But try to get experts to install if possible.

So called "experts" make a good portion of their pay by charging more for replacement parts than they paid for them... So if they tell you that they don't install customer purchased parts, that's why. It's fairly standard in the industry.

And if you're skilled enough to remove a part at a junk yard yard (practiced the job) and you've also done all your homework on Priuschat and Youtube, you don't need to depend on "experts" to install your part, you can do it yourself!

 

Yes if DIY is very capable. But a lot of these install requires two people or else you have alignment issues and then you want to make sure it is very safe for driving.

 

Doing your homework and having the right skills and tools is key... I can't think of any jobs that take 2 people... Heck, even https://www.instagram.com/skimmilkhybrid/ puts Gen4 engines in a Gen3 Prius in a day in people's driveways in a day all solo. Though I do agree if you lack experience, having a friend or family member with more than you and lots of tools can help speed things up greatly.
