First Gen 5 2023 Toyota Prius cars show up at the dealers!

Anyone had any luck with a dealer in/around Phoenix, AZ without a markup? I've tried three dealers now, only one of which has had the actual car delivered that I went and checked out on Thursday, but the markups/addendums are insane. Two dealers just had addendums, one at $4,500.00 the other at $6,000.00. Neither wanted to budge much, but those are the two which haven't had the actual cars show up yet. At least not any that weren't spoken for.

The one I got to see in person and test drive was the exact trim/color/interior/features that I wanted, but they had a $3,500.00 addendum, and then an ADDITIONAL $11,000.00 dealer markup on top of that. Brought the total price of the car to $50,000.00 before taxes, which is over twice what I paid for my 2022 Limited Prius Prime ($24,000.00) brand new. And this is a regular Prius, not the Prime.

After speaking with my sales guy and him sending me over to the manager, they essentially told me all they will do is wipe $3,000.00 off the addendum, but the $11,000.00 markup would be staying no matter what, as they anticipate they have multiple buyers who would come in and buy it at that price without a single question. Needless to say, I walked, and told them to give me a call when they want to actually make a deal and not just insult their customers with that insane markup.

Still on the hunt now, may have to go out of state at this point, because I'm not aware of any Toyota dealers in the vicinity who don't markup. I did hear that there's a dealer in Tucson that doesn't usually markup, so I guess that'll be my next option.

Are you sure? I was tracking one from Nagoya to Long Beach via the vessel finder website from the “Well hello my new Prius” thread. Vessel name is Libra Leader. It was moored on 2/24 right in front of the Toyota facility. It’s on its way back to Japan now after a stop in Benicia.

 

I just checked my dealers' website....nope, no Prius, GR Corolla/Supra/86, or Crown...all say contact dealer.
I'm surprised by the MSRPs of vehicles in stock...a Tundra for $49K and a Sequoia for $77K...ouch. A Highlander is only $41k while a Highlander Hybrid if $51K.
If I were buying a new vehicle, it would be the Corolla Cross at just $27K.

 

my closest dealer shows 12 new prius. all say, 'call for availability'

 

I will wait 10 years before paying $50K for a new Prius. The current market is insane.

If you qualify for the rebate, a base Model 3 will run you about $36k (after fed rebate).
No dealers, so no dealer up charges.

 

That is what we just did. I love the new Prius Prime from the images and reviews, but decided that a full EV was more what we wanted. With the incentives the base Tesla Model 3 was a much better deal than most of the other options. My wife said no to the Bolt or that would have been another option.

So far we really enjoy the Tesla, but it is taking her time to get used to the one pedal driving and some of the other "features" such as the strange door handles.

The price including destination and order fee but before TTL and before incentives ($7500 Fed and $2250 CT) was $44,630.00.

 

Sorry to ask but what is Ro-Ro? We're on our 3rd Prius and this is the frist I've seen that term/name.

 

12? Yeah right. lol ....I guess its possible but the dealership where I just bought mine said they got only 1 and all the TX dealers were supposedly getting only 1 or 2 at a time. The faucet is on, but its a trickle for now.

 

Mark ups, when they happen, are in the MSRP.

I believe it's short for roll on, roll off. It's a transport ship that the cars can just be driven on and off of.

 

Trollbait is correct, it's a term for a ship specialized for transporting cars. Typically, Ro-Ros are either built for the use of car companies to transport cars from their factories to their markets, or they are built as ferries for high-traffic routes.

The most recently famous Ro-Ro was the MV Felicity Ace that caught fire a year ago in the Atlantic while carrying a load of almost 4000 (mostly) VW group vehicles on their way from Germany to the US. It's unknown what started the fire, but the large amounts of Li-ion batteries in many of the cars made fighting the fire impossible. The crew abandoned ship, and the vessel drifted for a week before sinking while being under tow.

Also, the car carrying Ro-Ros are UGLY. Some of the ferry-type aren't that bad, but the ones used by car companies? Woof.
