    Context ASAP, but for now...

I likely need to remove/replace my oil pan. What size are the pan bolts? I found cheap plastic "pop ups" that make pan replacement easy, and want to order the correct size. :)

are you talking about the black metal pan at bottom of engine? Definitely no “plastic pop-ups” holding that. Install details in first attachment.

    look on parts.Toyota site?

If this for plastic under-panel, under the engine bay, plastic pop-up fasteners abound; see second attachment.

Are you talking about the plastic undercover?

Oil pan bolts have 10mm hex heads. The actual threads are M6x1.0.

Maybe order by part number, 90119-06848 for OEM bolts 9 in total, 2 nuts OEM 90179-06326.

THANKS! So, I will buy some 6mm plastic snap-ups to make reinstalling the oil pan easier:

As you can see, I wasn't talking about something that's permanent ;) ... just an aid for reinstalling the oil pan itself.

I was a bit surprised that the oil pan instructions don't happen to mention the bolt size! But thanks to others here, I've got it... and have the snap-ups (sorry, not pop-ups) on order.

What on earth would be the purpose of attaching the oil pan with anything other than its original steel bolts and nuts? Surely you won't operate the engine that way??

Wow, people make a lot of assumptions. Take a look at the product. It's simply an alignment tool making the job simple for one person.
    • screw in four locations
    • slide the pan into place; it clicks up against the upper pan
    • these hold it gently aligned with those (four) holes
    • insert the other N bolts
    • then unscrew the plastic snap-ups, add the final four bolts
No fuss, no muss. Oil pan goes in quickly, perfectly aligned, easily accomplished by one person.

It appears to be a temporary alignment guide and method to hold the pan. Then removed one by one and replaced by a bolt.

    Exactamundo :-D

Some people use just two... whatever. And I'm sure 6mm plastic bolts can be found cheap somewhere... but these are designed for this purpose, and in this case I don't want to mess around nor miss on getting it in place correctly... somebody apparently already got it wrong (most likely... will know once I've got it apart!)

Oh, I see you mentioned an amazon product in there, B000CSEQY6.

If you're not careful with how you enter amazon links on PriusChat, the forum software will turn them into three-inch blank spaces for some other readers (like me), depending on their browser security settings.

Yes, so you won't need three hands to keep both ends aligned while holding it up and starting the first bolt.

Same here - I was trying to figure out what the OP was talking about until I entered the product number in Amazon. Then I went to YouTube and finally saw how to use these things. Now I can sleep at night ;). Thanks @ChapmanF!

The key is to create a link yourself the usual way, where you supply both the URL and what you want the link to say, like here's the amazon thing I'm talking about. The forum software leaves that the way you wrote it.

But any time you just go dropping an amazon link by itself into a post, the forum software goes "oh yummy! another amazon link I can turn into a three inch blank space so other people reading will wonder what you're talking about!".

I guess the people reading who use more lax security settings in their browsers actually get a little all-singing, all-dancing three inch tall amazon ad for the product, instead.

Yeah this is what I've noticed, and I'm one of the 3" of blank space types. So: "bare" Amazon links are blanked, for some (with laxer security settings?), and Amazon links "embedded" in a word string are ok.

I wonder if there's a technical reason this situation is advantageous? Or it's just a vagary of the current website software? I know it's frustrating.

Strange! I see the link, and the 3 inch blank is a photo. No song and dance. Just a picture

Not changed by forum software. My guess: you have a browser ad blocker...

I am surprised that putting text with it breaks the ad blocking!

    - then 3 links
    - then image
