I installed an engine from a 2016 Toyota Prius into my 2012 Prius. I had some difficulties with EGR and such, but I was able to get everything to fit and it runs well. The reason for my post is that I have a persistent check engine light. I've had a buddy run diagnostics, but he was unable to determine the cause. I believe that the 2016 Prius engine may have a different cam shaft profile or some other engine change causing the engine to behave different than what the 2012 ECU is expecting. I would like to know if I am thinking along the right lines here. The reason for my thought is that the 2016 engine has a lower HP rating. Also, the older Prius' have overheating issues or oil burning issues, I think. The 2016 engine had improvements made to alleviate these issues. In the process, I expect that the ECU was programmed differently. If I am right, then I should be looking into reprogramming the ECU, rather than investigating the vehicle for a defective/faulty part or damaged wiring. Please offer some guidance. C1241 often pops out even when disconnecting the negative terminal 12V battery but too slowly. the ABS module detects a split of second lower than 10V and this C code will stay there although you do not see ABS or check engine lights. It is just enough to cause MOT failed.
That is the right fortune cookie for P2196 (P2 codes are SAE standardized, so they're pretty safe to google for. The only extra thing to know for the Prius is that the "bank 1 sensor 1" sensor is the A/F ratio sensor.) That fortune cookie for C1241 is completely bogus for a Prius. C1 codes are manufacturer defined and can mean completely different things in different makes and even models of car. When you're looking up a manufacturer-defined code in a Prius, only what you find in a Prius repair manual is useful; googling the internet for the same code will get you things that code means in completely different cars. C1241 in a Prius refers to a problem with the supply voltage arriving at the brake system components.
