The engine on my 2008 Prius cutout while driving on the highway, check engine light, red triangle light, ABS light, brake light etc. all came on. Would not start back up initially, but after sitting overnight the engine turns on for about eight seconds then cuts off. This all occurred within 48 hours of getting an oil change, never had any issues like this previously. When a diagnostic was run I got the codes P3190, C1242, and C1241. Any feedback is appreciated.
Did you check if the oil level was correct? Are you out of fuel? The 8 seconds is not the engine starting, just the HV battery spinning the engine.
P3190 is the ECM reporting that the engine doesn't produce as much power as expected. The other two codes are the ABS ecu not liking the voltage at one of its power input feeds. As mentioned, the car will spin the engine at 1000 rpm for up to 10 seconds when it tries to start it. If you try too many times you will run the High Voltage battery down - it's not easy to charge that if the car won't run. Typical causes for P3190- out of gas, failed fuel pump, dirty throttle body, dirty MAF sensor. You might want to put a "smart" (AGM compatible) charger on the 12V battery. Turn the ignition ON (power button x2 but no foot on the brake pedal). Then use a digital multimeter to check for power on both sides of all fuses - both in the underhood and underdash fuse blocks.
