    Hello there,

I have a 2013 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid, and recently the car started to give me a P Lock Malfunction only when I turn on the headlights. It doesn't matter if the car is parked or moving, once I turn on the headlights the error message will appear together with the yellow triangle.
I still can drive the car but when I get to my destination I cannot engage the P motor.

The solution is to disconnect the negative of the 12v battery and wait for a minute or so. Once plug it back, the the error is gone.

I had the car scanned, and it shows the error code C2307. ( anyone can see more info in the link below, pag 64).

I went trough the troubleshooting and checked the wire hardness, could not find any problems. Manual request then to replace the transmission control ECU.

So I got a new transmission ECU, and replaced in the car, but now I cannot start the car ''READY'' doesn't show up on the display.

I imagine that there must to be a initialization procedure once we swap modules, may register the vin of the car, or something similar to bind the new transmission ecu to the car?

I would appreciate if anyone could help me out.

So you have installed the new ECU Is this correct? And now you can't boot the car get it to ready Even see ready on the display and what happens right now if you move the other ECU back into place does the car boot back up normally and come to ready? This is important. And the parts you're swapping out have very similar or the exact same part numbers on their respective labels and tags?

When you did all this did you happen to have the hybrid battery or HV battery orange plug removed from the battery? If so remove it reinstall it and on the last step slam your finger down home do you now have ready?

Correct, I have replaced the transmission control ECU. It is the exactly same part number on the label, and came from a same model car.
If I replace with the original transmission control ECU car will go into READY without problem.
With the new one, there is the red light with a padlock flashing on the dash. ( That is why I believe that maybe the VIN number or something needs to be written on the new transmission control ECU. Thanks for your reply

I did not remove the orange plug from the HV battery to replace the transmission control ecu. Also if I replace again the transmission control ecu with the original one, car goes into READY without a problem.

The light that flashes with the new transmission control ecu in place is the one to the right of the photo, a car with a padlock. I believe that this is what is stopping the car from getting into READY mode

Yes I bet that padlock is stopping it from going to ready mode I just think it's interesting that the car would know or care that an ECU has been replaced especially if the other ECU is known to be bad or what have you and the new one you're putting in is known to be good. So I'm thinking maybe the one you got out of the other car or whatever maybe it's compromised too? I have no idea I certainly didn't realize that I would be having to reprogram computer ECU numbers into the car's bios or equal to that.

Most of the ECUs in the car are gregarious and happy to meet new ECUs.

There are some that are slower to warm to each other. If I remember right, a power management control ECU won't be all chummy right away with a smart key ECU or ID code box it hasn't met before, for reasons that make sense. They need about a half hour introduction ritual.

I didn't remember about a transmission control ECU needing anything like that. It should be in the repair manual if it does.

Toyota Service Information and Where To Find It | PriusChat

The red car-with-padlock normally blinks when the car is off. For as long as cars have had alarm systems, they've had a light that blinks like that, to say "hey car thief! go steal that car over there that doesn't have a blinking light!".

Now they pretty much all have the blinking light, which is why so many car thieves are walking around in complete confusion, unable to decide which car to steal.

Usually the owner of the car never notices the light until something goes wrong, and then wonders if the blinking red padlock has something to do with it.

    Correct.
Indeed it is. The last step in the Repair Manual procedure for installing a transmission control ECU assembly (TCM) is “Perform Initialization,” which links to a table in the Introduction, which links to the topic Vehicle Interior: Theft Deterrent/Keyless Entry: Engine Immobiliser System: Registration.

It’s explained there that when the “Customer has brought at least 1 key,” you’re supposed to do key registration Procedure “C,” which requires a Toyota Techstream diagnostic system connected to the car. This procedure is mainly used to register additional keys, but I imagine it also updates the information in the transmission control ECU assembly that’s used to determine whether a request to disengage the parking lock mechanism—which takes the place of a steering wheel lock on these cars—is authorized.

So wait a minute The Gen 3 gets the padlock and does away with the flashing key? Now I have to go look in the Gen 3 to see if I see I've never noticed the padlock on the dash before makes sense I just never seen it I didn't think we have a red light that flashes when SKS's armed I guess or the alarm is armed I know there's a red light that flashes I didn't think it was the padlock way over there on that side of the dash though.

that p lock is a doosey... if you get ready with original part.. its not the transmission ecu... is the car on level ground? have you tried rocking it back and forth?

P lock codes often give you a ton of information in the freeze frame, like multiple measurements of the voltages arriving at the transmission control ECU and on the actuator motor phases and stuff like that.

id be curious, to what you would say is the issue with my car looking at a saved data file with recorded freeze...

I'm to the point of just popping on a V cvt now as makes no sense not in ready mode but when I let off the brake it makes the hybrid hum like its rolling forward and more than once techstream said the car was doing 158mph and like 16k engine revolutions
