If I accelerated from a stop using all EV in LA I'd be run off the road. Maybe I'm just conditioned, but using EV to accelerate from a stop just feels so slow.

    First 700 Mile tank!
    2017-06-30 16.58.06.jpg

I had about 40 miles to empty, but I didn't feel like "tickling the dragon", and try for 800.

74.5 displayed, but with 10.099 gallons, it calculates out to 71.69. Lifetime is up to 62.1.

There's been a steady climb in mpg since March. I fill up roughly every three weeks:

    Code:
     mpg fuelup_date
    71.69 6/30/2017
    69.69 6/8/2017
    68.85 5/17/2017
    66.57 4/27/2017
    57.84 4/7/2017
    57.01 3/22/2017
    59.04 3/6/2017
    58.76 2/15/2017
    57.87 1/20/2017
    60.64 1/6/2017
    55.86 12/20/2016
    60.62 12/5/2016

This can't be real, but it's good for a laugh. I never look at the ODO or lifetime mpg average, I'm usually always on Trip-A.

My last tank has reached almost 74 (UK) mpg. When I do the actual calculated based upon the fuel fill up, it works out at 70 (UK) mpg in reality, which is 58 (US) mpg. According to the dash calculation, I'm saving over £200 ($260) in fuel costs every month compared to my previous car V6 gas guzzler. Plus, I'm saving another £230 ($300) a month because my Gen 4 is exempt from London's congestion charge. So whilst all my peers laugh at my boring and sensible choice of vehicle, I'm saving a total £430 ($560) every month from this choice.

Good on you my friend! Like you I'm saving more than half of what I was paying for fuel since I got my Prius, although there no congestion charge down here even with all the Emits (like snowbirds) clogging our Westcountry roads and lanes. Glad you you can metaphorically cock-a-snook at your peers as they waste their hard earned cash on motion lotion.

PS. Emits is a Cornish word for Ants. Their cars form long lines of traffic jams into and out of Cornwall in the summer season - like a line of ants.

Seeing your screen makes me miss my 2G Prius! It was a fantastic car, and paid for itself at least twice over. But my 4G Prius is lightyears ahead in terms of technology...

Anybody else here use a T-Mobile Sync Up Drive? Just wondering if anybody has compared the MPG numbers that generates against what the Prius computer generates.

Our 2019 standard Prius got 63mpg indicated on the first tank, and is still doing so at 65,000mi. using Dunlop Enasave 01 tires (now on the second set). Calculated mileage from odometer and pumped gas is ~ 1-1.5mpg less. We typically inflate the tires ~ 3psi over the sticker, but am not convinced it makes much difference.

Over inflating the tires gives an unnecessarily harsh ride which beats the crap out of the car and you. If you're driving on smooth flat roadways at high speed maybe you can over inflate but if you're driving in a city with potholes I wouldn't

    Just got a gen. 4.
I notice in pictures others still getting 50-55-60 mpg out of them.
Mine is only getting 38. And looks as though in the past its always got around that, at least for the last whatever it shows, 10 months?
Should I be concerned or just chock it up to the car being almost 6 years old?
    It is a four touring.

    17" rims?

Drive at 85mph w nobody to draft?

Oil burners have stuck compression rings/low compression=low efficiency. Burn oil?

Yes. The touring comes with 17" rims.

Most I've done is bring it on the hwy at about 70 mph, other driving is 39th street city driving.

Has 70k on it. Haven't had it a week so not sure about the oil burning.
Carfax shows first owner put 30k on it, 5k mile oil change intervals. Second owner did 9-10k intervals.
My 2013 never used oil. 40 mpg winter 45 summer

I know. That was my thought exactly. I'm concerned the hb is bad.
I've also been getting very short subtle whiffs of coolant.
This car came from Florida. You can tell it was very taken care of at 70k. I worry that florida heat or something as made the hb degrade faster.
Or by using a dead 12v for too long creating too much strain on the hb.
I've ordered a obdlink lx to hopefully get some insight from Dr. Prius.

It is cold weather but not extreme temperatures around 40-50 degrees.
    All tires at 30 psi.

It's been a week since I bought this.
I'm leaning towards bringing it back.

What's the VIN? Compare it to the VIN information in @bisco sig. It may have the updated rings... did you get it at Carmax? Let the exhaust of the car go into a towel for a little bit. Smell the towel. Smell coolant or just exhaust? Hope they didn't just dump HG leak stop in it and sell it to an auction which sent it to you. :cautious:

Got it at Cable Dahmer in Lees Summit, MO.
My brother has a (small) dealership and we've searched Manheim auction and could not find it. They purchased about 7 months ago. 7/4/2021. Showing on Carfax report. Showed oil being changed regularly. 2 owners.

They supposedly did a "125 point inspection" on this car. I stupidly trusted them. Coolant levels low in both reservoirs.

When I took it back they told me that was from sitting. I dont entirely buy that.

They topped of the engine coolant but left the inverter coolant level low.
needless to say after the salesman and the service department I dont trust this dealership for a second.

I can try that. I did previously wipe the exhaust with just two fingers as I've heard of the heat exchanger going bad on these and only got soot no "steam cleaned" feeling.

Put a new 12v in it bc old was measured 11.7v after only sitting an hour.

About a 13 mpg jump after driving 30 miles.
Now it's not charging the new 12v.
    I'm taking this thing back.
