I've got a family member there with an issue that's probably as simple as a jump, or replacing the 12 V, only the mechanic who came out said it was probably "the alternator", and so probably isn't the right person for the job. Back when the same car had the usual obvious pump/AM2 magic smoke issue, I drove up and swapped pumps myself, but that's a long way to drive for every little problem. It would be nice to find someone local.
If 12v related, they might test it with a 12v voltage monitor that you plug into the lighter. Easier than using a multi-meter for some. After trying to jump it, AAA may offer a 12v replacement, though not all areas offer that service. Call to confirm. Does it need to be a mobile mechanic, or can it be towed to a shop? first you have to ask a mod if they will pin it. a lot of loose threads here should be pinned, and a lot of pinned threads should be loosed
Because most mechanics are scared of high voltage electricity and are too closed-minded to learn new things... But they're out there if you look long enough. I wonder if this was done on PriusChat long ago and we could update it?
