How Often are you doing a Prime Traction Battery 120v Recharge

    It must be 16A because that's exactly what I get with my L2 EVSE cable. And my meter says it's pulling 16 amps. Or more like 15.98 or so. Very nice of them to do that.

    I can bring my 2017 Prime to full charge in ten minutes. (Of course, that's after driving two miles to the supermarket and back.)

    IIRC, the motor won’t even start (ICE or electric) as long as the charger is plugged into the vehicle. Just the accessories come on and then shut off after a certain amount of time automatically. At least on my 2020.

    I charge mine after everytime I drive it and get back home unless I only went like 5 or less miles. It’s become habit. The moment I get out of the car before I even walk inside I hook the charger up, it’s what it’s for after all.

    Many of my trips for work related things are 40-80 miles away, so I take whatever electric miles I can get. In the summer I consistently get 33-35 miles on the dash read out on a full charge- even though I know some of you said that’s really just a “guess o-meter” and you are likely right. At 28k miles, I had the car at Toyota for routine service and they said the traction battery was at 91% life left - no idea if that’s good or bad.

    I plug in nightly. Have been doing this for the past two years. From April to October, my readout in the morning is between 32-37 miles. In the colder months, it's usually 28-31.

    Also, does anyone know why, when driving downhill not long after starting the car (on a full charge) the gas engine kicks on? Seems to do that regardless of the weather conditions.

    It's precisely because you have a full charge. You can only put 5 pounds of do-do in a five pound do-do bag. So, deceleration is done by engine braking rather than regeneration. The car refuses to put more juice in the battery because of the top end charge limit imposed by the engineers.

    Since getting my 2018 in October 2021 with 14K, we have only purchased 6 tanks of gas. Right now, the odometer is at 33K. The distance driven daily (to work and back) will deplete the battery by half. I charge the battery every-other night and have not had any issues whatsoever.

    We have a 2024 model SE and plug it in every time we enter garage. Except for one 35 mile trip on icy roads in blowing snow, (and the 250 mile home from the dealer) we don't run in hybrid mode -- only electric mode. I have a schedule set so that it only charges 9a to 4p when our solar panels help.

    I level 2 charge every time I get home. I'm assuming the previous owner of my 2017 Prime did the same (or through level 1, that I don't know) because according to my maths, out of the 146k km on the odometer, only about 20k km are with the help of the engine.

    About every one or two days for 1.5 hours on 120, or as needed. Rarely to 100%, but sometimes. All is at the time I walk the dog, charging at public outlets. Today was 1.5 hrs on level 2.
    The problem I have more is running the engine. It needs to be used more.
    I guess this was asked 2.5 years ago, oops.

    On my first Prius Prime, I plugged it in every time I parked it at home. Level 2 charging from 220V. The only time it did not replenish the battery within an hour or two was 2:30 PM to midnight. It usually displayed 25 to 32 miles of range when fully charged. Using the "charge immediately after use" technique has effectively given me about 50 miles of range per day with no changes to my driving patterns.

    Patterns are slightly different now that I have the 2024 Prime. I know that I will seldom need more than 15 miles of range in a day of running errands in the tri valley area. I find that in this last week I've taken to glancing at the miles of range remaining as I get out of the car. If it's more than 25 miles range left in the battery I don't bother charging till the next time I make a quick trip downtown. :)
