I drove past a Police roadside check today. It was the environmental unit checking emissions. I didn’t get waved in. I just smiled as the following thought crossed my mind. If I had been pulled in. “I don’t know how to force the engine to come on, Officer. Just run behind the car and the engine will come on soon.†Has anyone been pulled over in a Prius before to have their emissions checked? If so how do you force the engine on?
One way is to push down on the accelerator. Another way is to put the car into inspection mode. Usually though they just connect to the DLC and check the emissions stats in the ECM.

Leave it in Drive, Press the brake pedal with your left foot, lightly press the accelerator with your right foot. Or leave it in Park and lightly press the accelerator. Neutral won't work since pressing the accelerator in neutral does nothing.
Here in Maryland, the bureaucrats are really smart. They send out notices that you have to go get your car inspected. So, you wait in line until it's your turn. Then, when you SHOW THEM THE PAPERWORK THEY SENT, the guy says, "oh, you have a Pry-us," just take the paperwork in and they'll stamp it. No inspection needed. So, what, the computer can't just delete mailing to us folks who drive a PRY-us? (Or a Prius?)
