Folks, I've searched this forum but can't seem to find the info I need. I just bought a used 2015 C to replace my 2006. It came with only one key. I want to buy another. I have the Techstream swr and am tech savvy. However, how do I know if I have an H or G chip, or no chip? The numbers inside the key fob are just HQ12BDM. I seen no H or G anywhere. 1. Does this mean I don't have or need an H or G chip key/fob? 2. If not, how do I find out which I have? I'm new to the Gen 3 so I really could use some help. Lastly, anybody in the Lynchburg VA area want to buy an '06 for parts? Engine clacking and the I believe the traction battery is done. Interior, Body and running gear excellent. Cat is good. /herb
try typing hq12bdm into ebay? the prius C is not a "gen 3". it uses a different motor for one thing. How much do you want for the gen2? i'm in MD. I was able to add a remote to the C I had using techstream. SO there's hope.
Danny, Thanks for the response. Would you consider emailing me? Thanks /herb One more post and I can post my email address for you.
I ordered a PRX-TOY-FBA-49 for my 2015 Prius C technology from car and truck remotes.com . I had it programmed and it works as it should.
"Mail order" is not always the best way to go. Some locksmiths sell the FOBS and can program them too......all for about half the price that dealers charge. Support your local businesses. They might return the favor.
\ I had a local business program my mail order key fob. He only charged me $50.00.CDN It was actually the Locksmith that told me to order the fob and from where. I think it was because he was out of them though . Now i have to get him to cut special key that came with it.
Thanks for the responses. I have the techstream software and dongle. I just need to determine if I have a G,H, or no chip fob before I order. I'm hoping the software can detect the type of chip (which is actually the transmitter frequency) of the original key. I'm betting on the G, which is 315 Mhz. That's pretty common and what most tire pressure sensors use. But the only way to be sure is to detect it with an analyzer.
