We are going to have to agree to disagree with your last comment.

The cam bearings caps as well as the OCV filter is very important to look at when removing the valve assembly.

As instructed from the Toyota Bible this would let you check for cam wear (Shavings) which can be present from running too dry and or other issues.

Can you imagine not taking 2 minutes to look at this? It is just a ticking time bomb waiting to explode!

You got to trust the good folks at Toyota that help create the step by step instructions to disassemble and assemble the valve assembly. It is very crucial to a healthy running engine.

We are looking for long term results rather then short term results.

Chapman it may be best to step back and move on to another Thread, just like to keep things moving in a positive direction. God bless you and your family.

Something in my last comment must not have been clear at all.

I was not remotely talking about what you guys do, as an engine rebuilding shop, when you are removing the valve assembly.

My comment in post #94 was a reply to post #93, which was from an ordinary Prius owner asking if he should treat that filter as "another maintenance item":

In other words, i was answering the question "should ordinary Prius owners be going and disassembling their intact engines down to the valve train, every now and then, just because they have heard there's a little filter in there that might get dirty?"

My answer to that question is no, unless there is some other reason to be doing that disassembly, there isn't enough chance it will be useful, and there is too much chance of causing new problems inadvertently.

After I wrote that in #94, you seemed to think I was saying that a shop like Hybrid Pit shouldn't check it while the engine is apart. I wasn't saying that, and I wrote post #100 to further clarify that I wasn't saying that, and I guess it still needs to be further clarified.

What makes sense for a shop to do while working on an engine that's apart, and what makes sense for a typical car owner to go disassembling things just to check, are not always the same.

I wish I had asked about the possibility of getting a rundown on the shape of my engine after my rebuild swap. Just out of curiosity as I'd love to know the nerdy bits about everything out of order.

Been stalking these forums for some time but thought I would post finally about these guys. I ordered a remanufactured engine for hybrid and couldn't be happier. I got one of the two mentioned above. I'm out here in Colorado and blew my head gasket on my gen 3 engine. Greg over at hybrid pit stop got me a remanufactured engine out to me stat. I went with the gold package. I had Paul and Sammy over at boulder hybrids install the engine in under a day. I'm just breaking here in. I have put about 100 miles on her and she's running like a top. Thanks a ton guys and I'll keep yall updated to how she's running a few 1000 in.

Did the EGR and intake manifold get cleaned as well?

Had to reread, couldn’t remember, anyway: I was wondering if Boulder Hybrids, who did the install, also cleaned the intake and EGR. To avoid a repeat.

I should have said boulder hybrids when I posted that question. At least now it’s clarified.

They did get cleaned out properly before reinstall as well of the intake manifold and throttle body. I put new coils, plugs and remaned injectors in. So far so good. The reason I'm sure this head gasket went is the car over heated over a mountain pass here in Colorado and within 20k it blew. I had dropped all the coolant and blew the water pump. Did the 500 mile oil change and found out I got the upgraded oli filter conversion kit so needed(90915-YZZN1).
