Have we already vented about "could give a" and "couldn't give a"?

Similarly, I'm always trying to restrain myself, every time I hear "I could care less". If you stop and think about what you're saying..., yeah, leave it at that. You've basically hamstrung the sentiment.

Language is a living thing, expressions are going to evolve, and if the majority mangles an expresssion, or a word, whatever, it is what it is. It could be argued the errors and missteps are even necessary.

It was a meta question. I couldn't remember if we'd already vented about it. Was thinking we had.

Went to dealership today to buy a case of Toyota 0W-16 oil for my Venza. Six months ago I paid ~$8/quart. New owners of dealership now charging ~$14/quart. I walked out. Going to do some shopping online...

I'm guessing NEPA is in the States? Maybe Northeast Pennsylvania??

$14 USD per quart is getting up there. I balked when dealership was asking $10 CDN per liter, went with Costco's Kirkland 0W20, a 2-pack of 5 US quarts for $60 CDN. So $6 CDN per US quart, maybe $4~5 USD.

I don't have a membership, enlisted my son's for that.

    Yes.

Just bought 2 cases (6 qt per case) of Toyota 0W-16 for $101 on Amazon. $8.42/quart, just like 6 months ago.

They aren't called stealerships for no reason...

The other night I went to a few stores. At all three of them I ended up in a parking space with headlights pointed right in my face. This is one of the disadvantages of being practically the only sedan driver in an all-utility-vehicle town.

The other is the city decided it was a good idea to put right turn lanes at all the two way stop signs. When school gets out, I just stay in my lane at the stop sign until all the pickups and SUV's have cleared from beside me as angry drivers honk at me from behind. But there's nothing I can do since everyone wants to stop way out on the crosswalk. Occasionally they stop far enough forward I can see who's coming from behind them and then pull out.

I just found out that 2021 was the last year the Camry was sold with a manual transmission. Looks like the same with the Corolla (except the GR). I'm sad!

Me too.....but there's a reason that people no longer take their clothes down to the river and beat them on rocks to get them clean.

Nothing is as fun to drive as a RWD car with a millenial anti-theft device....HOWEVER (comma!) with vehicles mostly being equipped with either rubber-bands (CVT) or 6-10 speed automatics, manual transmissions just aren't as comparatively more fuel efficient than their three-pedal alternatives.
Semis now come more and more commonly with 'automated manual transmissions' which for obvious reasons are not called 'semi-auto.'

While they're still legal, three pedal cars will remain popular for some enthusiasts and they will retain the advantages of being more difficult for most American drivers to steal, and having an alternative method of starting the engine if the battery fails......at least in older cars. :)

Our 81 civic had the hondamatic, a manually selected gear shifter (only 2 gears IIRC), but like a regular automatic, no clutch, just shift.

    And a manual choke.

True, but for me, driving has become a boring, menial task that I have to do just because I'm afraid of getting ran over on my bicycle.

My car choices are now all about practicality:
    • Can I afford it?
    • Will it haul what I need to haul?
    • Will it be reliable?
    • Is it safe?
    • Is it not horrible for the environment?
Other than those points I don't really care about much else. I know I'm the weird one, but I don't find the "fun" things that are in modern cars to be fun. Quick acceleration, instant torque, touch screens and tall seating positions don't appeal to me. When I ponder over my next vehicle I often go back and forth over a huge variety of possibilities, but not because any of them seem like they'd be fun to drive, but because it seems that cars are becoming more expensive and less practical (lack of spare, lack of tow rating and options, unaccessible roof heights and automated things that seem to work against what I want the car to do).

OK what is it with seniors clumsily attempting to use "pull-through" parking techniques?

    Any of this sound familiar?
    • Pulling into a parking space only to find someone rolling into the same one from the facing space on the other end... and now you both have traffic behind you. Great.
    • Car driving forwards out of a parking space, cutting off traffic in the aisles. Those drivers don't get the notification benefit of seeing reverse lights illuminate before the problem car moves.
    • Finding a car pulled only so far through that two parking spaces are occupied (didn't clear the space behind)
    • The one nosed halfway out of a space, making the spaces on either side harder to use
I swear, everyone was better off backing into each other gently.

Feeling impatient about wanting a small electric car, ideally with solar added on, something like Spark EV or Arcimoto with doors. And wishing the Spark EV was still sold. And a lot of other things but I'll leave the vent at that.

Though I do like Leadfoot's quote above about it first being difficult to buy gas, this thought makes me feel a bit better about it.
