My Prius has a "map" button but it leads me to a screen which says an app has to be downloaded. I paired my phone but I don't see an option to download a maps app. Am I just an idiot here, or does my car just not have this sort of feature?
If you purchased it new, take a look at your window sticker; or enter your vin number in the Toyota App on your phone to find out what options you have. Without the trim level information there is no way to know if you should have it or not. I can say my 22 XLE NIGHTSHADE does not have it.
I saw a review of the new Aygo X and that had the Map button, but showed a blank screen when pressed. The reviewer then plugged in his iPhone into the USB port, pressed the button and it brought up Apple CarPlay/Maps, maybe yours will do the same?
No, people are using Airplay, etc. now a days. The only problem is you rely on data and cell service rather than GPS, but coverage has improved over the years.
Im using wireless airplay / carplay on my 2022. Tomtom go on an iphone is £19.99 / year way cheaper than Toyota 3 year at £300 plus and traffic and speed cam is included.
The map button is on all models; but you need to pay for the option - if your trim to too low. Most people just use Apple Carplay or android auto on their phones; so they don't have to pay for OEM map updates. It'll mirror your device screen.
Will CarPlay work on a 2017 touring 4? I update maps about every 2 years and recently discovered gps update store had same update cards for $64 so maybe I’ll update every year. Yes I have google maps.
Sorry Cardashier, my lowly model didn't come with maps installed and I'm too cheap to get it installed. Especially when I found out updates would cost over $100 each. Besides, I'm an android user - which drove my decision on the model I've chosen. I just keep Waze updated on my phone, and use that instead.
