Instructions for converting a halogen light to Fluorescent. Even with 3 fluorescent bulbs it should only use about 40 watts vs. 300. It's also less of a fire hazard.

Of course you could always just purchase the CF torch directly. They've been available for years.... or am I Missing something?

They are $40 bucks a piece at Home Depot. This costs a couple of bucks each. Plus you can re-use the old lamp housing. You know, reduce, re-use, recycle. Right? <_<

Ah. That's what I missed - already *having* one of those halogen units. I tossed mine about 15 years ago after the dead flies started bursting into flames. I'm all for recycle/reuse!

Here's the difference in heat output:

Ah - now your post makes sense to me! I already have several halogens - so I am thinking about switching them out. Cheers.

    It's close.

But it needs to be antique brass and dimmable. And brighter to begin with.

    But it's close!

That's a feature. You don't want those dead flies just piling up. :D
