    Hi Arttt,

I'm not a veteran, but I have spent some time pricing these before I ended up buying a new 2007 last Saturday. I went through Costco and drove out with an option 4 (HK, which is everything but the DVD nav and leather) for $24388 before tax and license/BS fees you have to pay. Another plus to me is the $1575 income tax incentive, which isn't available on used vehicles. It made much more financial sense to me to buy new after the research I did. I'm sure the real vets in this forum will have much more they can share, this is just my .02 worth. BTW, I love the car! Good luck regardless of which way you go...

I bought an 06 package 8 in July this year and paid 29,142 which was under MSRP by 400$. It also included the glass breakage sensor and labor to install it, floor matts, rear bumper aplique, and first aid kit but, as an earlier post mentioned, I got the full $3250 tax credit because I purchased it before the end of September. :p Hope this helps. Given how prices are inflated in the SF bay area, I went outside a metropolitan area to get that price. I really don't have any idea how the used market is so I can't offer any advice but it seems that this used car is selling without a tax credit for more then a new one did with it. That makes no sense to me at all except that the Prius really do hold their value.

    Hi Arttt,

After corresponding via email with the Costco contact at Piercey Toyota in San Jose, I decided to check out another (non Costco) dealership just for a comparison. Just as an FYI, I recieved a price quote that was about $600 below MSRP for the option 2 package on a 2007 model from Piercey. But after looking at and test driving an option 4 model (HK package) I was sold on this one instead - bluetooth phone, multi-CD, garage door opener on the rearview...very convenient, and scores very high for the coolness factor! I test drove an HK at Stevens Creek Toyota as my comparison baseline, but ended up buying at Piercey which was a much better sales experience for me. There was no BS at Piercey as compared to SC Toyota where my girlfriend and I were left in one of those little cubicle rooms several times while the salesman went and "fought to get us the best deal" with his manager. At Piercey I talked with the Costco person for 10 minutes and then the paperwork was prepared - very easy and no stress. He also beat the trade-in value I would have recieved from SCT. And they took a personal check for the balance! In the end, I paid $24388 (which I believe is only $300 over factory invoice and about $1500 BELOW MSRP) for the complete 2007 HK-outfitted car - plus the usual tax, license etc. that you have to pay. The Costco membership is well worth it!

Well, this has been my first and only time so far buying through Costco. Perhaps other dealership affilliates have been problematic for buyers, but my experience has been nothing but stress-free. In a nutshell, I just went to Costco's website, filled in the info there and the Costco contact (and fleet manager I believe) at Piercey called me and told me about the deal for members. I asked him to email me the numbers and he did right away with no hassles, complaints or BS. He was very up-front and kept his word - and I have left a very satisfied customer...

Check out www.kbb.com for their values. For my zip code their suggested retail value was $29035 presuming I selected the correct options. Personally I would buy a new one as the price differential is narrow, the warranty is longer, and the tax credit is still available.

Also check the used car on carfax.com where you will need the VIN.

Canadian taxis and government fleet cars have gone hundreds of thousands of miles needing only routine maintenance so durability of the hybrid components shouldn't be an issue unless the car was abused.

Buy the accessories later if you can or ask for the 15% discount you will be offered after the sale.

If you are patient you should be able to find exactly what you want. Good luck.

I had tried a few dealers but they were all playing games. My dad used to run a few used car dealerships and he knew a few guys that worked at Menlove Toyota in Bountiful, UT that came to buy cars from him because the employees didn't get discounts. Anyway, he told me he knew it to be a reputable dealership, so I stopped in and talked with a salesman and gave him my limit of $28K to work with. He repeatedly had a visit with his manager slowly working down from MSRP ($29,195) until his manager finally came over and sat down with me and hesitantly said $28,300 is the best he will do, so I walked out the door. The salesman called me a few weeks later with the "it's the end of the month and we're throwing out some good deals, maybe we can work out $28K for you" scam, but I was working at a job site and didn't have time to talk so I told him to give me a few days to think about it and give me a call back. For whatever reason he never called me back until a different salesman called me and apologized because he had just found out that their new salesman never returned my call. After listening to an apology and some quick negotiation he was trying to explain actual invoice (from edmunds) vs. their invoice (includes dealer fees for Toyota advertising, etc.) and somehow came up with "so you want to pay roughly $500 over our invoice?", tire of the BS I said "If that makes $28K, sure..." so he punched $500 over 'invoice' into a calculator, ran it by his boss and came back on the phone and said "that works out to about $27K but I want to give myself a $300 cushion because all Prius come with floormats and sometimes more" so I couldn't argue with that. My '06 Magnetic Grey pkg #8 was delivered on May 5th (probably one of the first few of it's color) with floormats and rear bumper applique so I payed $27,3xx plus TTL etc. and I even get the $3,150 tax credit. Not a bad deal. Like my dad says, if a salesman is motivated enough, he will sell the car. For a good dealership, it's better to sell a car, make some money and have a loyal returning customer in the future than it is to not sell a car, make no money, and have a customer that's not coming back. Good luck! You will enjoy a Prius.

Do you want all the options? If not I know that you can buy a 2007 pk # 3 for $24,000. You are talking about a used car that is one year old. IMO that is not a good price.

What year? Not everyone likes leather. there is a big difference between a new car and a one year old used car.
