Skidplate - priusoffroad or others

I put the Prius Offroad version on my 21 AWDe and have been happy with it thus far. (also live in snowy Utah) also installed the lift and run 27" AT tires in the winter

If you check the dates, this Engine Splash Shield was released to the market first with the opening for access to change the oil.

I cant keep splash guards on my car. I live on rough snowy Colorado roads. HELP! Im home in the middle of nowhere alone and my center splash guard is dragging on the ground .Any suggestions How can I reattach it so it will stay? Silicone? Mr gasket? Haha! Lol!! Im willing to try anything.. Thanks guys!

 

I lived in Florida until last October (now in Michigan) and had/have lots of issues with the under engine shield/shroud/cover thing as well as the ones in front of the front tires. In fact, the piece that you remove to access the oil filter is completely gone now (from an oil change place not reattaching it). And as a result, I recently caught a small clump of dirt on a road being worked on and it ripped the larger piece behind it in two.

To answer your question, I use black zip ties to reattach to wherever I can get them to go. I'll even punch a small hole in the guard when needed. The ones between 9 - 12" work well for me. Make sure they aren't too thin either.
Obviously you, or someone else, will need to be under the car to use them. If you know your oil change people well enough they should let you access it while it's up on the lift. Just need a pair of small wire cutters to trim the excess off. Or, jack it up, put some jack stands under it and crawl under. I find a big piece of cardboard facilitates the sliding under & back out process and keeps you cleaner.

Additionally, I've checked into buying the pieces underneath for replacement, the little one for the oil filter access is about $75 while the large one, with that access panel piece included, is around $260. The ones in front of the wheels are separate buys. Plus the cheapo anchors they use.

I actually joked about putting a lift kit on mine due to bottoming out on speed bumps/humps. And have seriously thought about higher profile tires for the next set for that reason as well as Detroit's infamously shite roads.

Fubar you rock! Thanks so much for that great info! I managed to get it up off the ground from dragging and I taped it for now with HVAC foil tape- hee.. I was desperate - that thing is in the worst spot just in between the front tires! How evident it becomes that the ones who design these modern marvels are not the ones that might have to work on them! In my mind that splash cover design is really a joke! To my amazement It's still holding after a mountain road run to Cripple Creek in the rain and back- that's including 14mi. of hellacious rocky Mt. roads . I just found 1 ramp out here that I can access without whacking off the front spoiler on the way up- (wish I found 2)I now have a little better access so I will dive back in and apply all your great suggestions. Btw. In case it was too trashed to fix ; I was shopping for another splash shield cover for my 2016. I found after mrkts for like $54 on Amazon (I'm unsure the quality ) I tried, but was stopped from sending you the link -wth?! But That's a far cry Better than $260! It's nuts to spend more if we are replacing those dang things time and time again.. thanks again Bud! I'll try and get you that link somehow- check Amazon- I think I got my last one off eBay actually for cheap too. I know it was under $100 , and it's not junk . Have a great day ~
