I went to the dealer to see about purchase or reserve or order 2023 XLE preferably, salesman I have worked with before really couldn’t tell me much! Or when they were getting any in, he took my name and told him what I wanted and he would see what he gets allocated? This is a large metropolitan dealer I’m talking about. They had no new cars on the show floor, but had some used ones that looked like new ! He said it’s a challenging time to be a salesman right now, I’m just wondering what others have experienced?? haven’t owned a Prius in 10 years. I had two previous models GEN 2 and GEN 3,,, thanks everybody for welcoming me back. Hopefully I’ll be in a Prius soon again.

yes, same thing everywhere. parts shortages, production difficulties. covid has turned everything on its head.
no inventory on the lots. some claim there will be a slow down in sales next year, and manufacturers will be able to catch up. we'll see, only time will tell.
all brands are having the same problem.
and prius being new will probably take some time to get into decent production numbers to fill the pipeline.

Same story here. Just yesterday. 3 to 6 months out is just a guess according to the dealer I was at. The used prices make new the only answer to me. Odd days indeed.

"Toyotathon" is just a marketing gimmick. You went to the store, so it worked!

No, no, I just said that for effect!! I just don’t get how a company can show commercials on TV and it shows showrooms full of new cars and you go there and there’s nothing,,I’m talking about a big metropolitan dealer here! they have used Nissans and GMC SUVs in their outside front show space! same old song, and dance chip shortage! I just hope there isn’t price gouging when these cars come in! Really just trying to find out what it’s like around the country at other dealers, but I would imagine it’s same same!

If i click on "New Car Inventory" on the website of my nearby dealership, no preference, just show me what you've got, I get this:

HMMMM.... WE COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING MATCHING EXACTLY, BUT HERE'S SOME VEHICLES YOU MAY BE INTERESTED IN:

Couple with the abysmal selection Toyota Canada will bring in for Prius (just the two top levels, nothing with a spare), if and when, it's hunker time*.

    * Memo to self: get Weird Al on the phone...

around here, cars come up on new car search, but they all say 'call for availability'

i'm no advertising guru, but they must feel they have to keep their name in front of the market.

    it's like coke and pepsi

I've been trying to come up with a RAV4 hybrid for a couple of months. The few that do exist have dealer markups that are substantial. At this rate I'll be looking to surprise my wife on her 50th birthday (two years off).

Well, Toyota sure put enough of them in Youtubers hands! Many videos, time will tell I built a car and put it out to six dealers in my area! So far, I am on three wait lists!

Anything and everything to do with computer chips is affected. It is a hard time to wait for electronics. Others in here may know more about the nuances behind producing chips. My uneducated guess is the U.S. can't compete with the output of other places. Not to mention environmental concerns and cost/profit factors.

I would not want to be in the market for a new vehicle anytime soon. Economically, 2022 was the worst year since 2008 and I haven't seen any positive news for 2023. (As they say in the country, "The chickens are coming home to roost!") Gas prices are predicted to go back up to $4-5 a gallon by summer.
A co-worker of mine has been on the waiting list, for months, for a Chevy Bolt...so far, she's heard nothing.
I like to work on cars and want to buy cars on the verge of death, fix them up, and flip....but prices even for those cars is insane.

I would suggest if this is news to anyone they have been sleeping under a tree for a year. Toyota hybrids have a three to twelve month wait and have had since 2021. Agreeing to taking anything that comes in worked for us when we received a blizzard pearl xse rav4 hybrid in Nov. Not a fan of the color, blacked out wheels or interior choices but it was new, awd, lithium and had a responsive dual injection 2.5L hybrid at msrp.

Actually some GM and European models can be found on their lots, a major improvement over six months ago.

Most are predicting new car supplies and pricing will continue to normalize in 2023 but used car prices will remain high for several more years. This is due to a lack of new sales during covid which will impact the used market longer.

Toyota Financial is offering discounted interest rates for good credit buyers, about the only discount you can expect. Teslas are actually easier to get than Toyota, while Honda has some non-hybrids on the lot.

Tesla? LOL. Not even in the same market due to insane lack of quality, unbelievable lack of quality parts/engineering/workmanship and the Elon factor -- the guy is simply nutzoid. Also, used Teslas (your future if you buy one) is falling faster than a Chinese rocket booster.
