Seems when uploading pictured it has a mind of its own and locks random pics. This is the one thats locked.
As a user here once said, “Sorry to pee on your cornflakes” but I’ve used that app for many years, the mpg trip and real time mpg is way too optimistic. I get similar results even though the dash trip mpg summary shows 65 mpg.
And, as always, paper and pencil at the pump after a fill up is the Real Deal. And figuring out your odometer error is a plus. BTW, a 26 mile trip is nothing to write home about. It could be all downhill with a tailwind....
@Grit I guess the data the app is showing coming from the hybrid ecus is wrong and I should not trust the ICE temp, rpms, hv battery temp or any other info it shows. @Bill Norton I knew you would be here... by the way the roads here in the high desert are mostly level with some slight changes but not by any means of gaining a false reading. I was really trying to point out the low rpms and the speed I was at getting those mpgs for the duration distance I was driving.
Very well put @AzusaPrius in 2017 bobwilson posted - paraphrasing - who will be the first to get 50 miles EV from a prime. If anyone could get 50 EV miles from a prime it wouldn't be easy and it might take months of extreme hypermiling techniques to prime the prime for a 50+ ev only miles run. Just like any other extreme use of a machine to find it's functional limits, it's not something that many if any normal machine operators would ever see and most of us, me at least anyways, have a hard time grasping the difference between normal (including all the possible variables) and functional (specialized testing) limits.
I'm pretty sure this 'extreme use' is just a matter of going SLOW. You know, wind resistance uses most of the energy, so as slow as possible. It's not Rocket Surgery. Set the cruise to whatever the lowest MPH available is, and drive somewhere level. You might have to drive slower than that....But the limit is when the EV's background usage gets close to the motive usage. Maybe pump up the tires to their max rating. But what about wind? Is that allowed? With enough wind it could be +60 miles 'EV only'
Thanks for the bangup job of putting my post in perspective of your Priuses in this specific case - yeah maybe - - - more likely case might be I-80 from the top near Tahoe to Sactown with no traffic to worry about. The with the wind thing could help, especially if comparing to the other direction into the wind for references. But the benefits of wind at your back isn't always proportional to wind in your face, unless ones built from the ground up for it, like a sailboat for instance. I guess what you're trying for here is how well Prius is built to capture tailwinds and praying to the god of the winds to get you home safe.
I think you may be joking, but here goes with the aerodynamics.... If you are driving north at 50MPH and there is a 30MPH wind from the south,,, your car is pushing through the wind at 20MPH. Wasn't this covered in high school? Cars are designed to push through the wind. There is never a consideration for "tailwinds". You're joking right?
And with enough downhill, no tailwind is needed. I did this one eleven years ago: At 80 miles, the gauge was still pegged at 99.9 mpg, but I had no more downhill left, and had to climb up almost 500 feet at the end.
@fuzzy1 the same , well very similar coms screen is in the gen3 PiP, exept it maxed at 999.9 instead. It was enlight(e)ning to see how fast 999.9 would drop as soon as the switch of HV happened with only 20 miles EV driven. My best in the PiP was 19.9 miles.
I'm still kinda knobi with Hybrid Assistant dashboard, since it doesn't show much of what I'm interested in reading from the primes sensor array, but I can probably get two screenshots of it with the prime in both B and just regular regen. Not sure how either would look.
But if you are driving north at 15 mph and there is a 30 mph wind from the south, then "how well the Prius is built to capture tailwinds" comes into play.
You're joking too, right? Do you think "capture tailwinds" came up as a subject even once in the Hallowed Halls of toyota's engineering departments? As for the other responses on record setting numbers,,, Yes, wheels and gravity work well together when going downhill.
I must have been mistaken. If so, what do S3 and S4 mean? In my Venza they mean using engine power to slow down the car, i.e., what B mode did when I had my two Prii, in other words, downshifting. It may not be called B mode anymore, but it functions the same. Please don't call me wrong, just confused...
