This sounds like a good plan.......IF you want to be changing it every 6 months to a year.
Honestly, if you insist on going cheap you will get junk and likely will be sorry in the end.

My general benchmark is: If the part in question is priced at half or less than the OEM asking price, then it probably is a junk knockoff.

So would you say the part I found is junk knockoff? because I see the single OEM one costs $76 on amazon, and HID Concept offer 2 for $90 so it's $45 each so it's a little more than $38... By your rule it probably is... Unless again, maybe there is a better source to find two OEM for less than $150 like in the 2018 youtube video description...

I got the same issue before, but it never happened after I replaced the bulbs

    Yes most likely it is.

Are you familiar with the phrase "Penny wise and pound foolish." ??

Selling good parts at a discount is quite different than selling cheap junk at a ridiculously low price.

A friend of mine recently had an "object detector transducer" go bad on his Ford.
Kind of an expensive part and a REAL pain in the butt to change.
He (we) tried 3 different ones from Rock Auto because he is cheap.
None of them worked. The first one from Ford worked.

He is an old fart and probably didn't learn anything from that experience.
He still orders things like LEDs from China but that's his problem and not mine.

My Chinese cob LEDs of the latest genre hold up quite well even the old ones that I put in three four years ago maybe five when they first came out are still working they're not as bright as the latest new Cobb designs but still they're working Yes I've had halogens last 15 years no kidding That's a light bulb. Hell I've got light bulbs incandescent light bulbs out in my shed that I don't think have ever been changed in 25 years of course they're not run all that often and they've recently been changed to modern bulbs this is residential but I'm just saying I've seen bulbs where the glass is full of water but not yet touching the element and the light bulb still works fine If you leave it on long enough it'll even evaporate the water out of the glass and still run.

actually I used H4 LED bulb on the HID housing. My situation was kind of a hybrid issue since my passenger side is Halogen housing and the driver side is HID housing. The passenger side was replaced with Halogen assembly after the fender bender (deer collision) since it's cheaper and easier to find than HID by the previous owner. The correct way is to use D4R/D4S LED bulb so that the bulb will fit correctly, the H4 needs trimming on the bulb adapter to fit. You need to remove and throw away the ballast and igniter (less parts to fail) In my case I use H4 bulb on HID housing because I don't want to buy another bulb (I bought it as a pair)
Contrary to what other say, the HIDs have major complaints on the Gen2 prius ("they don't last long") I have other cars that have HIDs that are way over 10yrs (BMWs/Volvos)

2 brands that I used for my cars are Katana and Sealight. Toyotas don't seem to require a CAN-bus filter/adapter that European cars require that's where I look for sealight brand.

I would be suspicious of "OEM" anything being sold on amazon (or ebay). At any price.

Yes but then it mentions “Phillips store” on the item page, wouldn’t that indicate it’s coming directly from Phillips?

Or at least that the seller knows how to spell Phillips.

    ... or perhaps not ... isn't the electronics/lighting outfit the one-L Philips?

    Cross-slotted screws, those are Phillips.

Sorry it’s a typo on my part...

    I just spoke with
    Philips automotive lightning support manufacturer

    18002576054

    They told me:
    authorized distributors are:

amazon - typically best price (confirmed the link above is theirs)

    summit racing

    tire wreck

    pep boys

    walmart

    Then they said:
hid concept - there is no way to confirm he’s an authorized (he’s not an official distributer like the ones above that have a long lasting contract with Philips), but if it’s fake support department will give you a new original replacement but it’s not recommended to buy from hid concept to begin with.

So I’m at a crossroads with this. My wife’s Prius had halogen so we bought new halogen housings $150 and new LED bulbs $60 and the lights are bright but the beam pattern is splotchy and pretty crappy at best. my Prius has HID and I now need new housings and want LEDS. So $400 for new HID housings and then D4 LED bulbs $50 but I don’t want the crappy hot spots you get from a halogen housing. I don’t have time to install a projector lense. So… what do I do now?

    Just a wild guess:
Stop "cheaping out" with the LED bulbs.
Contact the company that sells the bulbs first and see if they will GUARANTEE that they will work good
    with your current equipment.

Or go back to halogen bulbs.
They are more than adequate in most situations.

How do we know that the HID housing with the D4 LED replacement bulb will give you crappy light output I wouldn't think that would be a decent comparison of the halogen housing with the LED bulbs installed? Personally I wouldn't think so anyway I have the same problem you have I have halogen housings and have had several different sets of LED bulbs splotchy at best yeah I'll go for that bright is all get out absolutely very rarely I get flashed by either some real old vehicle or some very late model electric vehicle but generally never I haven't tried aiming them in the fooling around with them yet because it's kind of a pain in the nice person on the Gen 2 as far as I can tell and lately the night driving has pretty much fallen by the wayside it's actually a rarity I prefer to drive my motorcycle not because of the light just because of the time the night. But I mean do we know that the HID housings with the D4 LED replacement bulbs yield s bad light pattern?

I've seen a pretty good pattern with LED bulbs in a Gen 3, but Gen 3 has projector low beams. Gen 2 halogen housings use reflectors for the low beams, and sometimes the LED bulb seller even expressly advises against using their bulbs in reflector housings.

That might limit what's achievable where Gen 2 is concerned.

Correct I agree with you. I might switch back to halogen in my wife’s Prius and look at the difference. Thank you.
