Alright, to clarify It takes 8-8.3 gallons to fill up each time, I am not a speed limit driver all the time. So I do my math off of my trip meter which is about 341 divided by 8, now sometimes it's a little less or more, I think I've filled it up 3 times now, about to be the 3th since getting it a month ago.

726 mile round trip this weekend. 46 mpg at 75-80 mph. (calculated mpg by miles driven and gallons of gas used)

Yep. Lifetime 52 mpg in our '04 from when we got it used with 40k until we sold it with 220k.

This makes me wish I purchased another gen2 Prius as opposed to another alh Volkswagen TDi. 750 miles a tank but no better than 5 dollars a gallon.

2007 original owner here with original HV battery and 299,500 miles. I was getting low mpg before I got a tube up: iridium spark plugs, engine air filter, cleaned MAF intake abs throttle body plus replaced serpentine belt just in case.

I have had the p0420 for some time.

and after the tune up, I got 52 mpg on a 369 miles RT trip with some hills and taking back roads vs highways. No heater. But have my winter tires on and they usually make mpg drop!

Also I have been using expensive gasoline for months (93).

    good luck!

Can I ask if there's a reason for using 93? You might find 89 gives just as good results.

My mechanic recommended the expensive gas for one tank and I just stuck with it as Inise so little gas anyway. Thank s

I have a mix of freeway driving with some very serious hills that I have to climb, back to flat freeway driving for 40 miles, then windy, twisty roads to get to my place near Yosemite and I averaged 48.1 MPG. I am not lightfoot and push the car pretty hard, although on the flat freeway I set the cruise for 75 mph until the last 25 miles of twisting road. Then I do 65mph on the straights and down to at time 25 mph on the tight curves. Have not had the car long enough to do city type driving.

Tires matter when it comes to mileage.

when I replaced my tires the first time I lost 5mpg. Next time I went to change the tires my mechanic said he’d have to look up what tires the hybrid needed. I asked “it matters”? Yes. And soon as he put the right tires on my mileage went up 5mpg. And I could feel the difference - soon as I took my foot off the break the car started pulling forward.

challenge is, it’s hard to find anyone who makes the size I need in that design for my 2008 Prius…

this last set of tires I went with Michelin tires. More expensive, longer ride. But, I’m down to 42mpg average. I do think I have better traction with them too - a challenge I’ve noticed in the past. My car his horrible in snow and ice!

I accept that 42 avg is ok for a 15 year old car with over 230k miles. And it’s still never left me stranded. Best car I’ve ever had!

I have a 2004 I bought with 250k on it already. I average about 44 mpg but can go as high as 49 if I drive easy and keep it under 55.

I just picked mine up, a 2007 and I beat the crap out of it 75-80 on the flats and my last 30 miles to my house near Yosemite is a windy twisty road that I push the car to the limits and I get 48 mpg.

Probably a good idea. In the UK, they’ve now introduced E10 into our 95 RON fuel. This has been a bad idea for most older cars.
My wife’s 2011 Yaris MkII wouldn’t start the other morning as she’d had the E10 gas in there too long - her round trip commute is only 6 miles a day! The fuel also burns off much quicker and gives less energy - making the engine lethargic and noisy to boot.
    Cured her starting problem immediately.

My 2008 Prius Tspirit certainly didn’t like it.
My MPG dropped by almost 20% and the engine vibrated constantly and didn’t run smoothly.

Switched to using Esso Supreme 99+ Unleaded. Pricey? Yes, but what a difference!
Vibrations disappeared. Smooth running, instant response from throttle pedal input, MPG went right back up and it lasted way longer than the E10 gas - it was like a different car (back to what is was before I started using E10).
Officially, this Esso Supreme 99+ fuel has 5% levels of ethanol in it - but the blurb is that they’re not actually putting any E5 in there at all.

So, I’ve been using expensive fuel ever since.
Last summer managed 69.4 mpg and went 653 miles on a full tank, using this very same fuel. That’s a record for me! And all that in a 14 year old Prius!!!

And here’s the proof of my personal best mpg record.
So, I’ve got a UK spec 2008 Prius Tspirit.
This was achieved during the super heatwave in London this summer past.
I was using Esso Supreme 99+ Premium Unleaded.
    Mixed driving; city and motorway.
Motorway was at 60mpg on cruise control.
City was cruise control where possible otherwise keeping to speed limits BUT at proper GPS speed, so usually going faster than average traffic.
I wasn’t particularly trying for a record - the hot weather had a lot to do with this, methinks.

Oh, and Siri just told me that’s 1,050.9 km out of a 45 litre tank of fuel (UK). I’m stunned .

    That's 4.28 L/100 km. Pretty impressive, for sure. (y)

This data below might answer that question. I bought my car used in 2014 with 41130 miles on it. Average mpg by calendar year since then:
    2014: 54.0 mpg
    2015: 58.0
    2016: 58.2
    2017: 59.1
    2018: 59.9
    2019: 59.9
    2020: 60.3
    2021: 60.1
    2022: 60.8 (Odometer at 136793)

    That's for a 3rd-generation, but I don't know why a 2nd-generation would necessarily be much different.
