2023 Prius Product Information

Glad you guys are ok! That’s very resourceful to be able to use the Prius as a mobile power station. Very cool.. I put a 3000w Renogy inverter in the back of my gen 3. Fun

 

In Japan, the Prius Prime had an optional widget that was a power off inverter that plugged into the charge port. The new model having an inverter isn't surprising. The window insert and mention of it were from the Japanese unveiling, so it may never leave the island.

The 120V and 230V label showing up in pictures and video implies Toyota plans to offer it on exported Primes at some time. Or someone felt a label was better than leaving a blank button for the demo cars. If it is something Toyota is serious about, my guess is that they haven't sourced the parts to have it available on launch. Even then, it still may be Prime only.

 

Did anyone mention the growing problem (CDA)

“Perhaps surprisingly, the new Prius is not more aerodynamic than the old one. Toyota claims a drag coefficient of 0.27 compared with the old car’s 0.24. Dimensionally, it’s 1.1 inch longer, 0.9 inch wider, and between 1.8–2 inches lower than before, depending on trim level."

They made the Prius into a Ford c-Max which will likely make the “highway number “ optimistic and unfortunate

 

I noticed. I have to wonder what's responsible for that - the longer hood? No disrespect to the engineers, but I don't really think an aero compromise was necessary for the styling, given the truly beautiful cars that get 0.24-25 these days (e.g. Sonata Hybrid). I was expecting something in the low 0.2s, which would've been a point over the Camry. Now the two are closer to neck and neck for me.

 

The crude frontal profile of the gen5 is a little smaller than the gen4. The CdA increase could be less than the Cd implies.

Toyota could have cut belly pans for weight and cost. I think that was the Insight2's issue, and its Cd was 0.28.

 

I hope not. I like belly pans. But that's a relatively simple crude DIY fix for anyone who actually cares.

Has Toyota disclosed the maximum tire size? I imagine going too wide would be problematic.

 

Why? That would reduce MPG compared to the stock 195/60/17 Bridgestone Turamza ER300 Ecopia.....

 

Are they comparable OD? If so, maybe more readily available?

 

Instead of $250/tire They are common and cheap.

Walland clearance was $50 a tread the last time I bought a pair.

Given this size will only be on the Prius you won’t get any selection, very much like the BMW I3

Well, Page 4 of the Quick Reference Guide shows a 120V AC outlet on the front dashboard. It disappears a few pages later and becomes the 12 V "cigarette lighter" outlet.
