MY HID headloghts are geting dim. How big a job to replace with stock or aftermarket HID bulbs (not LEDs)?
So this is the 4 projector setup 2 lenses on each side like fish eye camera lenses,??? It's like 1800 bux of stuff I believe . Proprietary. I don't even think the aftermarket has gotten on that game yet waiting to see what they do with this the aftermarket that is.
Very big! You pinch hold the bulb, do a quarter turn and it pulls out. And you have to do it twice!!!
Can anyone else confirm? The only original Gen 3 headlights I knew about were the one-projector halogen, and the two-projector LED.
I want to see what the aftermarket does with the two projector housings for the generation 3 usually they don't stay proprietary LED and ballast type setup. They go to a housing that will allow you to screw in an LED bulb which totally makes more sense
That's how the Gen 3 LEDs are: plain halogen for high beams, LED projectors for low beam. I still haven't heard of HIDs shipping in any Gen 3. All-halogen and halogen-high/LED-low are the only two flavors shown here: HEADLAMP. 2012 Toyota Prius | Toyota Parts Center Online
Well as far as I can tell my 13 persona came with Toyota factory bulbs I can't think of the name on the bulb right now it might be done so and they were whatever they're saying they are here h8 and h11 or something like that no LED in sight in the car except in the tail lights and that was a 2013 persona I bought used from a couple in Virginia that did not do anything and the emphasis is on anything and didn't want to know anything nothing. So I'm pretty sure the bulbs I took out they bought with the car but it's possible not I thought the persona was a upgraded model as soon as I put the LEDs in everything look like a updated car seems to light up the road well on low beam Hy beam is strictly for serious issues .
If the bulb just unscrews out of your car or twists out and you can make a note of the number of the bulb like h11 or h8 you can find HID bulbs that will fit into the respective above mentioned h number and then you'll need a ballast to ignite that bulb I don't know if your existing ballast will ignite the newer bulb possibly but I kind of doubt it. Following that guise it would be just a twist and insert and plug up.
Its not that hard. The only difference is the power connects to the ballast instead of directly to the bulb.
If you have HID low beam bulbs in your Gen 3 Prius 4, it would seem they are not original. The Gen 3 Prius came with either all-halogen headlights, or headlights with LED low beams. Which headlight assembly do you have? If there's one projector lens, like this one, it's the all-halogen flavor: If there are two projector lenses, like this one, it's the LED low beam flavor:
The local dealer gave me the part number for my VIN. 90981. Said they are regular halogen. When Toyota was marketing the "4",they made these lights out to be a big upgrade! I guess not! Does this make sense?
My 4 (well, they used Roman numerals in 2010, so mine's a IV) has the halogen lights, and I don't remember them being made out as a big deal. Seemed more like they saved most of the cheerleading for the LED upgrade that came in the V (or, later, 5).
It doesn’t. There were no hype on Prius headlight on the IV package as it has the standard headlights as the lower trims. If the dealer made that claim and the customer bit the bait, then he got git
