Repairs suggested to my son’s Prius

    Out of all of that, maybe just the transmission fluid change. Do not flush the transmission. That is a high price, but maybe it is worth it because it is fairly more difficult than an oil change. Walk away from most of that. Especially the swaybar and fuel items.

    Radiator hoses, mine are original on my 2010 as far as I know and look great but not new for their age. Not going to be replaced for years to come.

    Spark plugs are about $40-70 and a couple 3 hours to DIY change with basic tools. Every 120k iirc.

    Timing cover gasket is extremely common and so minor. You will only notice it with either towing or racing. Towing 65 miles caused about 1/16 to 1/8 quart of oil to either seep out that leak or burn by the engine.

    Brakes, I think you can DIY right around $300 for everything. 4 rotors and 4 sets of pads. Lube for the pad ears, wire brush. Rear caliper tool.

    Tries, I think that's a bit much to get 2 mounted and balanced. But $50 for 1 tire is absolute minimum. Not sure on that. I think I spent $120 per tire and after everything was done it was about $650.

    The transmission is EASY. Drain and refill. There is no way to flush it really.

    I’d disagree about the difficulty level. Similar to engine oil drain and fill, and no oil filter. Fill while car is level, till it starts coming back out, using a funnel with 3 foot extension. $100 is more than fair, $125 tops.

    OP’s likely dealing with a green service writer, who’s heard vague descriptions of the complexity of (conventional automatic) transmission fluid changes, with other Toyota vehicles.

    Couple this with Toyota saying the Prius transaxle doesn’t need fluid changes (by being silent on the subject): the mystery and lore of what’s involved with a Prius transaxle fluid change ever deepens.
