Apologies, I didn't see this until now.

The link provided in the earlier post is absolutely a 6V camera, it's a Toyota specific 6V model, and looks and functions like OEM, mounting in the same spot.

I've since moved on to a new head unit, a Sony XAV-AX8100. That 6V camera does work with the new head unit, but only because one of these is in use: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120AXCAM6V/Axxess-AX-CAM6V.html - this steps the 12V voltage at the head unit down to 6V for the camera to draw power from.

Hello, I recently bought a 3rd generation Prius, from the previous owner I know that the car had a regular radio 86120-47300, but it was changed to one with a 86140-47090 display, it works correctly, only after pressing the button Car does not display information, I want to add a rear view camera, I have already done the first approach to this topic, I unscrewed the radio and I have a free 16pin plug in it, to which the camera is connected on all tutorials, but after connecting the video input to 8 and 16 pin after applying 12v voltage to the camera, nothing happens. Anyone got an idea?

Hey i made a post and then found this thread. doh,
well, i found a prius hatch in a junkyard that has the camera, wiring and wiper. all of which my base model 2010 does not have. i also do not have the HU with a screen. so i need to find one of those too.
    now its all about wiring.
questions: does the base model prius come with the required wiring for the video screen HU, and the does the wiring harness going back to the hatch have the required wires and pins to just plug in the hatch pigtail to the headliner plug and be up and running???

i went through 3 pages of this thread but haven't gone all the way.
thanks for your help and knowledge.

can we take a poll on what the best HU is for oem backup camera. aftermarket or OEM?
seems like the pro's to aftermarket is that the screen is better and might actually be able to do more than just display. like maybe it can play cool videos too.
    thoughts?

Your asking some pretty loaded questions. Best HU for oem camera depends really on the type of harness you hook up. If you want answers to all your questions I would go to:

    https://www.crutchfield.com/S-08sMHj9sVWy/p_500ILXW650/Alpine-iLX-W650.html?awcr=625418371344&awdv=c&awnw=g&awug=9031600&awkw=kwd-648977291745&awmt=p&awat=&gclid=CjwKCAiA3pugBhAwEiwAWFzwdT-EZsYykqlTOUIo4DBWpbSiWZcNcARRxapUi88EnRA428Rbak9IVRoC_RAQAvD_BwE

Click on the "ask for help" thingy in the upper right hand corner. If you had a Prius with the original backup system, you need a harness. If you are installing your own, you need a harness. If you are putting in an aftermarket HU and an aftermarket backup system, you will need a harness. The harness will adapt to all scenarios and offer a pretty good picture.

As for videos, Crutchfield can offer a large selection of HU's as well. I have been researching getting an aftermarket HU for 3 years and Crutchfield has answered all my questions and eliminated all my fears. My HU arrives tomorrow and I will begin the Install Wednesday.

I was looking to add a backup camera to my 2012 Prius Two since it didn't come with one. Very disappointed with Toyota that neither a backup camera nor a navigation system wasn't standard in the Prius that year, especially for the price we paid. Toyota said the radio/touch display was backup camera ready however and that all Canadian vehicles required the camera by law. Anyway enough about that. I looked into aftermarket backup cameras and found the one Crutchfield had, the Crux RVCTY-71 for 2012 and up Prius models. Their price in September 2019 was $54.99. It is a kit which contains everything you need to install it. Here is the current link to Crutchfield for the kit:
Crux RVCTY-71 Backup Camera System Add a rear-view camera to your factory radio in select 2012-up Toyota vehicles at Crutchfield
Currently in March 2023 this camera from Crutchfield is only $64.99 That is a still a great buy considering what I was told.
I checked with my local Toyota dealership and they wanted to sublet the work out to an audio shop and it would be $700.00 I quickly turned that down. Mind you this install is labor intensive if you are not used to removing lots of interior panels to route the cable from the back of the car to the radio/display but can be done. I would suggest finding, making, or otherwise getting a washer that you can install under the camera to tilt it up so you don't see so much of the bumper and allow a more rearward view. Not a game changer but it would be nice. The washer would have to be thicker on one side to create that angle. Anyway it was way worth the money I paid compared to the $700 I was quoted by the dealership. That was September 2019 and the camera still works just fine.
