Hi all! thank you for such a wonderful community while we owned our Prius. We’re trading it in tomorrow for a Kia Niro HEV. I couldn’t get over the $31k trade in value for a vehicle for which we paid $30k 26 months ago. my thoughts were that at some point used car prices will crash, and I want to be ahead of the curve.
If your reference is D. Adams, then the dolphins said "So long, and thanks for all the fish". Fair winds and following seas.
Congrats. I also did a similar thing with my 21 Prius Prime traded for a 22 Escape PHEV, mainly to claim the tax credit this year but also to avoid depreciation.
You can't leave PC just because you unloaded your Prius and bought a new other hybrid or EV! Come back later to update us about what is good about the new wheels, what we might be missing out on. I was hearing that used prices were already falling significantly. Carvana is particularly hard hit, with its stock price down 97%.
Basically yes. Lease price will be lower, and many more creature comforts. What I love is that I’m going to a vehicle that is berated as super slow, and yet it’ll be faster for me. (Truth be told, 99+% of the time the Prius had completely adequate power.)
You can flip a Prius and get a new car for gain or very little loss, that is if you can find a suitable car at a right price. See my thread below. I sold my 2021 PP for a ~$6K gain. I purchased a Ford Escape PHEV which still qualifies for a full tax credit of $6840 this year. Including other incentives and the tax credit later, I basically traded in my PP without paying much. I needed bigger cargo, higher ground clearance, and a longer EV range to consolidate our household two cars (previous PP and Pathfinder) into one car. The Escape does not get as good of fuel efficiency both gas and electric as PP, but for my use case, I will be able to use less gasoline compared to PP. If we get rid of the Pathfinder, it will be a bit of an inconvenience for not having two cars, but since I now work from home, we should be able to save a bundle on total gas consumption and car related cost such as repair/service/insurance by reducing to a single PHEV. No more Prius Prime. | PriusChat
Holy mother-of-all-trade-ins, Batman! Congrats on the new KIA and, I agree, you don't have to leave...keep us updated on the new ride!
