Car started misfiring, changed plugs, coils ,cleaned EGR and Cooler, cleaned MAF,put it all back together and still the same rattle and misfire,,,if my hands were cleaner i would have put 30 rounds in it but i didn't want to get my gun greasy from my hands,,,,,,im at my wits end..no code except occasional misfir codes random cylinders..210,000 miles always well maintained no problems ever...
i also used brake clean to clean MAF,i know not good but all i had ,and never had MAF code just thought i'd clean it while i was in there >
Yea i cleaned the EGR ports on the intake,3 were plugged completely, when its rattling and i unplug the MAF,it runs perfect for a few seconds, trips CEL and starts rattling again,,side of block is fine and no coolant loss.i tried to test MAF using needles which i've done before but the plug comes in from the bottom,3rd prius i've bought new and this 2010 one is junk..i lost all faith in Toyota after this one..
This is a good example of where a kind of haste to solve one problem can end up adding new problems, so everything just gets harder.
Have you tried disconnecting the 12volt battery for a few minutes? That resets everything... Also do you have a friend with same car so you can swap MAF with to see if that's the problem? Or just buy a cheap used one online? And as always, check all the plugs and hoses. Your symptoms sound like something could of got unconnected.
i was getting a slight misfire, random plugs so i changed plugs, they looked good,, misfire #2,,,,,swapped #2 and #4 coil ,,misfire moved to #4 so i got new coils, misfire turned to rattle,,,,cleaned egr and cooler ....egr was soso,...cooler blocked....cleaned with drill and wire after soak,,never had egr code,,,never had maf code..no matter what i change i still got rattle,,,new maf is on its way but i'm thinking it may be too late..sold 1st gen with 250,000 miles ,,,,,2nd gen 300,000....i can't believe how bad this gen 3 is...got a couple Hyundai Ioniqs in the family and they seem like better cars,,maybe i'm just mad
