When the gen2 Prius arrived in the North America, its body shape was outside the norm. Calling it odd was being kind. It and the Insight weren't the only kammback with split rear window car on the market at the time. The Aztek was still for sale then, which didn't help public opinion on the Prius's appearance.

That past opinion has influence on today's model. More cars have that kammback profile. Even sedans, and the gen4 Prius is sporting a faux trunk lid. So the model doesn't stand out as much as back then. Or it shouldn't, but it has more polarizing details to it. I'm guessing to help differentiate it from the Corolla. The old gen2 had a non standard body shape at the time, but its styling was close to that of other Toyotas then.

The Prius ain't a commodity car. That is one which can pass as another model or brand because of similar styling. With something that stands out, good or bad, people are more likely to form and opinion about.

Tesla Model 3 Convert here. Twice bought but also bought 3 prii in the past including the tesla wannabe. Loved that car.

That being said, this does peak my interest. Give me higher res android auto please and great efficiency. Give me an electric car that has the best mi/wh ratio if Toyota wants to keep up? I mean if it's a 70mpg gas car.... Okay but I for one am interested in efficiency and practicality first. So happens that the tesla does all of this albeit 1.5 times at least higher price.

Now, interestingly enough with higher gas prices... What are we going to have? I think a prius truck and semi could also blow the market wide open.

Doesn't look like the new Prius is going to Europe. No info at all over there on the reveal, although it would have some tough competition in Toyota itself. It would have to compete with the Corolla Hatchback, Corolla Touring Sports, Corolla Cross, Yaris Cross, Yaris, and C-HR which are all hybrids. That and most western European countries have already stopped selling the Prius.

There is also the import taxes a Prius would be saddled with. Toyota chose to hybridize locally made models over making a Prius factory in Europe.

I am also thinking that Gen 5 Prius Prime plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) won't be available until 2024. I think Gen 5 Prius Prime will be a a-year-later redesign from Gen 5 Prius, just like it was for Gen 4.

Actually. Give me an electtic prius with higher efficiency solar panels and at least 300 miles ev! Then we can maybe buy. Oh yeah big screen android or Apple auto. Hopefully there is no new Toyota entune to rake on tesla... I think they have tested some panels on the roof years back saying on a perfect day you could get 25 extra miles. I'd dig it even if it's around 45 ev miles less than my tesla. I really do love the full power of the tesla even when I drive it in chill mode. It is so efficient.

I’d be really surprised if they did that again, given the success they have had with Prime models, and the amount of time they have taken with this launch (such as, the regular Prius went an extra year in the cycle vs the standard 6 years for Prime). If they skip a year, they will lose a lot of market momentum, and could lose some customers who are impatient.

I think the most likely scenario is the Prime is delayed a few months, such as a Mar/Apr release vs a Jan/Feb release for the regular Prius, which is what I think one of the Japanese rumor sites reported a while ago.

I am also hoping the event next week unveils both models, but my feeling is it will probably only be the regular Prius, and the Prime will be unveiled in a separate event. Purely my guess, with no source for this, just a hunch.:cautious:

Lexus grille, fake air scoops in the corners, extreme sculpture headlights, a rolling doorstop profile: what they’ve been beavering away at, for six years.

Wonder if it’s got a spare?

Looks more like a Corolla Hybrid XSE 2023......in a hatchback version. Wonder if the interior is also loosing it's specific identity.

Definitely looks way better than the 4th gen. A lot more sportier. I can see their sales picking up ;)

looking at post 91, i would buy a used gen4. i hope it is wrong, they just keep adding more and more unnecessary body folds and creases. reminds me of old age, obesity and gravity

A couple of things to consider with the Gen5. The standard hybrid should have double the battery over Gen4. The Prime should have double the battery and there should be a fully electric Prius. When I think of a Prius, this is what I think of. A Prius is like a little economical truck with really good fuel economy. You fold the seats down and you can put a new in box 65" flat screen TV in the back without any problem. The Prius is the most reliable Toyota vehicle. I tell people changing the oil is optional.

Yeah, and the winglet creases along the rear sides remind me of the silly wings at the rear of a '59 Chevy.
